Whatever money they save on the Mac buyout, it will cost them that much extra in two months when they hire the new guy. So, the financial side of this is a net break even.

But the new coach's contract will set the bar just that much higher. Which will ripple effect through the coaching search world. So they set the new standard artificially high, to make up for the money they "saved" by squeezing their outgoing coach.

So really it's TN, Arky, and Ole Miss who will suffer by comparison.

You guys have to be trolling. He back doored into Atlanta just because his team sucked a little less than the rest of that awful division. He sucked and all but admitted it on television Saturday. There are programs that refuse to accept mediocrity and you small time teams are just hating.

I'm torn on this one. Mac was a smug prick for the most part and dug his own grave, but there's two sides to every story. A lot of what caused the rift was what he viewed as a lack of support in facility upgrades and having to kiss boosters asses even though he won the East twice. Coaches talk. It depends on how you spin it but some coaches definitely will see it as an environment where they'll be on a short leash no matter what if they don't kiss the right asses.

For those who think Fla. looks smart here on the buyout, would you want to sign up as HC if you have a promising future?

There's more truth to this than UF fans are admitting. Making it to the SEC championship game is a big deal and it goes into the record books. What coach is going to want to come to Florida after they fired Muschamp for having a winning record, and now they fired CJM for winning the east twice and aren't paying his buyout.

"Refusing to accept mediocrity" is a lot easier said than done, and it's a two way street. Mac was vocal about how UFs dated facilities was effecting recruiting, and the response from the admin was "win more and we'll see." Then they took the first chance they could to fire him with cause. I can't stand Mac and personally am happy to see him fail, but a coach that doesn't have 100% support from his athletic department is being set up to fail, whether he would have on his own or not.

Everyone wants to have influence and power. Saban has it all in Bama. Mac didn't have shite in Fla. The longer he went without having an offense with a pulse, the less leverage he had, until he had none. When you have the ball at home with two minutes to go down by 1 or 2 and the offense looks like Keystone Cops, you are skating on thin ice. It has been that way for years and he was hired to fix that specifically.

Football has received and is scheduled for more upgrades. Don't know why you think he was told to wait for more wins.

Yeah, well, what does not winning them do for your job? Someone is about to find out.

Florida is gonna be Kirby's bitch for a long time.

You just proved my point. College football is too competitive to be negotiating resources with your head coach based on performance. You have to either support the guy 100% or fire him, you can't toe the line.

It's the chicken or the egg. I'm not defending McElwain. As far as I'm concerned it couldn't have happened to a better a-hole, but he publicly stated that your facilities weren't up to par and questioned your admin's commitment. He would say his offense works with talent, and that UF wasn't committed to helping him get that talent. It obviously wasn't working out for multiple reasons, but the OP's point is that UF can't entirely play the victim here. He should have never been hired if he wasn't going to be supported, or it was a doomed marriage from the start.

eta: Just look at the Spurrier story. Any coach with a set of nuts would have told the admin to get fricked when they suggested a washed up old coach come undermine their authority. That alone proves UF is a mess right now.

Not as bad as your statement above.

This was obviously an issue of "fit" here. Sounds like there was plenty of acrimony between him and the big wigs.

I admit, I was sold on Mac in year 1. He had me fooled like a mofo.

But, it's better for the SEC overall when UF is a winning program.

Florida fans want one thing... Competent coaching. Anyone watching this shite show knows that's been a problem since Mac got here.

Florida's offense was perfect, IMHO.
Really disappointed they fired Butter Teeth.
