The SEC doubleheaders at the Vet were something that I never knew about until this board and wish I would have seen in person.

The Georgia Dome was the best pure football venue that ever existed. It was the perfect football stadium. MB is nice enough but its like watching a game in the TV section at Sears in Cumberland Mall....no soul at all. Unfortunately that is the trend in stadium design....when they start in with the "gameday experience" its down hill for football. Folks have to have CONSTANT stimulation these days....the game is lagniappe for most fans.

I agree. I want to see a Red River Shootout before it inevitably moves. These new stadiums are beautiful, but it’s all copycat at this point. The NFL is soon to be an indoor league.

There is no better neutral setting than the cotton bowl during the state fair.
If you haven’t been you might plan to soon. It will move to Jerryworld eventually.

The only choices that make sense are Texas-OU in Dallas, UGA-UF in Jacksonville, or a big bowl game.

There is a reason Alabama doesn't play in Legion Field any more, or any of the Mississippi schools (other than Jackson State) play in Jackson.

Good point. I feel for you all though. Development sounds nice, until you end up like what is happening between Austin and San Antonio.

Legion Field was in a poor area in the 70’s. Had to pay to park in someone’s yard. If you didn’t pay you were taking a lot of risks with your car. You were paying protection money.

it is a little before my time - my dad talks about there being double header games in Jackson - Auburn vs MSU in the afternoon and then Ole Miss vs Alabama at night....sounds like a nice way to spend a Saturday!

I played my first college game at Legion Field vs Bama (for Cal). They squeaked by us 66-0. I am glad it was a neutral site game because they might have beaten us badly if the game was in Tuscaloosa.

That was the nightcap game of a double header. Auburn played Oregon State in the afternoon.

I always enjoyed how Jackson, MS would roll up the sidewalks after Alabama beat that Rebel arse.

I dunno that “watch yo’ car fo’ yah” was part of the fun. And a lot of those people were super nice many even offered food lol.
I last went back in 2016 when Auburn played Memphis.
About the only game you’ll see there nowadays would be the Classic. Also a good time.
