If Whitworth left and they didn't have a better option guess where Smith would move, and the holes in his game would show.

I doubt they'd move him, they know he wouldn't cut it on the left side. Are you seriously bashing him for it? He plays RT better than most LTs would, it isn't fair at all to act the way you're acting. You're letting your Bama hate show.

Which teams play their second best corner in situational packages? Not arguing, just want to know what to look for, if that is what you are saying.

I didn't even say second best. You could have a player who is the worst on the team when lining up at Corner, but is the best by far when lining up in the slot.

IF you are a top 2 CB then you are gonna be on the field all the time. Nickel is just the 5th DB on the field.

Exactly. Nickel is a different position than Corner.

And it is usually played by eh 3rd best CB. I only said 5th DB because some teams have a safety better than their 3rd CB.

It isn't a different position.

No team has a player that is a pure Nickel.

I will make an exception for Tyann Matthieu. LSU used to play him in a nickel a lot, but it is because he could play like a small OLB. Strong against the run, blitz, and cover slot Receivers.

So what you're saying is his skill set better suits playing nickel over CB?

I think he is without a position. When he plays inside in a nickel it is almost like staying in a base defense, because he can play against the run well, and blitz as well as drop into coverage.
But he is too small to hold up there all the time, so clearly he has to play something.

But how many players out there are there that have Tyrann's Skill set?

No one.

I remember everyone saying Tyrann Mathieu would be a bust... Good times (and also funny times).

Value loss of moving a highly drafted QB to FB is not remotely close to moving a tackle to the right side over the left. Apples to oranges.

So you admit they didn't get what they paid for.. value lost.. aka not living up to expectations aka bust.

Beast of a RT, but you don't waste a top-10 pick on a RT.

Its the things he does. They are just so uncanny, it is almost impossible to believe he can keep doing them

but he does

He would have shattered the NCAA record if he played another season, one of the GOATs

I think most of us were right, actually. As a Safety/Nickel, he'd be good. He didn't play much at outside Corner because he wouldn't be as effective. Also remember he wasn't drafted in the first as expected.

Honestly at this point I think TM7 is gonna go down as one of the great Safeties we've seen.

LOL at the Smith/Cincy discussion.

Smith was drafted to move Whitworth (a 2nd rounder from LSU) to RT or another team.

Whit signed a 2 year 19+ million dollar contract.
Smith signed a 3 year 18 million dollar contract.

Smith w/$5 million guaranteed.
Whitworth w/$10 guaranteed.

This fits with the salary averages of the top 10 highest paid players at each position.

Average Salary
LT - 8.1 million/year avg, 6 years avg years, $46.2 million average contract
RT - $5 million/year, 4 years, $22 million average contract

The market for these players absolutely does not lie. The 10 best Right Tackles in the NFL are worth less than 50% than their counterparts on the opposite side of the line. Their contracts are 30% shorter as well.

Neither of these players to me are in the top 10 of their positions and their pay bears that out. But their contract terms are applicable in terms of their value to their franchise.

Whitworth is twice as valuable even though he was a lower selection and Smith was drafted to replace him. Smith is absolutely, positively underperforming and is not considered in the top 3rd of his position in the League.

Very underwhelming and he's a bad example to prop up a Bama point of view in this discussion.
