I took a look at it, and there are really only a handful of true rivalries that need to be preserved in the new SEC:

Bama - Auburn (iron bowl)
Bama - Tennessee (TSIO)
Auburn - Georgia (Deep South's Oldest Rivalry)
Florida - Georgia (WLOCP)
Miss State - Ole Miss (Egg Bowl)
Texas - Texas a&m (lonestar showdown)
Texas - Oklahoma (red river shootout)

There are a few others you can make cases for, but I think these are the only games that involve hatred, generate a national audience, and are good every year regardless of current form (somewhat). A true rivalry.

I love a lot of the small rivalries LSU has developed with the SEC west teams and Florida, but those don't compare to these and are mainly reliant on both teams being highly ranked. Same with UT-UF and UT-UGA.

Tennessee-Kentucky and Tennessee-Vandy have history, but i dont think anyone would care if they stopped playing.

Scratch Aggy and Texas. No one wants that game.

This is not from an SEC perspective but maybe from respective schools but I have really enjoyed UK in football every year. At times in the last 15 both programs have been really good. It’s a good measuring stick for us and them every year

Exactly. I miss the forced LSU rivalry I watched growing up. But LSU probably feels the same way about us that I have for Missouri.

The longer you put it off, the more we want to see it happen

Not historically SEC games, but it’s a shame these ended or will not continue:

Bedlam
Missouri- Kansas
OK - Nebraska
Auburn - GA Tech (South’s second oldest rivalry)

You'ld be surprised how many people love in-state rivalries.

Hell, you should see how some places here in Ga. deal with high school rivalries with same city schools.

A. What about the Iron Bowl?
B. And people wonder why Ga. is putting up a fight about moving DSOR from being annual.

Meetings total
86
All-time series
Alabama leads 48–37–1 (.564) (Wikipedia)

HOW does this game get more attention than DSOR which has been played 40 MORE times?

Even these are OLDER than the IB.
Alabama / MSU - 106
Alabama / Tennessee - 104

Ehh... If you had to keep one for Tenn I bet it'd be Tenn/Florida and not Tenn/Bama

I can't find anything about this post that I disagree with. The fake manufactured rivalries have to end. I have no idea what the reasoning was to begin with. TAMU and SC? Ole Miss and Vandy? Arky and Mizzou?

Is it seriously being discussed to be done away with?

If so, that's a bunch of bullshite. Auburn has already lost a couple of games that were really important. Mainly Florida and Tennessee. Losing UGA cannot happen.

I always liked the old wooden beer barrel trophy in the UT/UK rivalry, dated back to Prohibition.
