This is like the Gus thing all over again!

Gus - I will take over playcalling... goes badly

Gus - I will let the new guy take over so I can focus on being the CEO... goes badly

Gus - I will be more active in playcalling

Letting prospective hires know that you'll be looking over their shoulders and micromanaging them is a pretty bold interview practice. Mostly stupid, but also very bold.

It definitely helps to explain why LSU had such a hard time hiring a defensive coordinator and staff. I cannot wait for next year! Time machine, please

Neither can Coach O. He can take the credit for improving the defense. He's not quite as dumb as he appears.

Well now we know why everyone kept saying "no".

*sigh* -- the life of an LSU fan never gets any easier.

There's no example of this NOT working so that's good for LSU.

I would say this likely means O will be heavily involved in coaching the DL which makes sense somewhat since Jones is a secondary coach and our DL coach doesn't have much experience.

It does make sense. It's not like this is the first time something like this has happened. Kirby helps out with the secondary because that is his specialty. It makes sense. And after the Pellini debacle, it also makes sense that he wants to know what is going on so he can give input.

By more involved I'm guessing he means more screaming and raging on the sidelines at his DC.

We got Saban back?

Well, he was a DL guru.

This fiction that Ed O is some DL wizard coach is laughable and has to stop. The ONLY reason he hung around the college game as long as he did as a DL coach (never being considered for a DC position) is he was considered an aggressive recruiter. Read into that what you will.
The one job he had in his entire career where he had to rely on his coaching acumen with no recruiting considerations was 2008 with the Saints. He was so impressive with his technical expertise as a DL coach he was basically shown the door after one season.
I, for one, welcome his increased involvement in the LSU defense. I see good things in the future.

List who turned LSU down besides Freeman.

I'll wait.
