he's at an age now where he's not the hot commodity every time there's a coaching vacancy. you really want somebody who's got at least 10 years coaching left before retirement.

that's the good news. now it becomes how long till he retires. I have to figure he'll retire from bama, after coaching as long as he wants.

Only LSU fans actually thought he was gonna take another job. He was always going to retire from Alabama

I don't think he will stay much longer. His contract is through 2017 and I think that will be it at the most.

I don't think Miles will coach another 10 years.

Saban is 63, I think hell coach until he's 70 and move straight to ESPN.

His contract runs through January 31, 2022.

Since he's not going anywhere else, I guess everyone is just going to start pushing the retirement angle.

I guess I need to prepare my e-debate skills for this next round.

But it doesn't matter. There will still be 12 threads at any given moment on the Coaching Changes board, about "Saban to...", when that board opens.

With all that hand movement he'll put someone's eye out for sure.

Well that's not true.

More LSU fans probably thought that for the first few years he was there, because that was his tendency throughout his career. But of course other fans had that wishful thought as well, and still do to some extent.

if you are so inclined temperamentally, you'll be worried about his imminent retirement.

who knows how long? when you have achieved both professionally and monetarily as much as saban, who knows what's left other than to really enjoy life?

this is not a guy that quits working in some capacity, though. helluva career as a football guru in store.

If he does I bet he does it somewhere else. I don't think he will stay at Alabama 7 more years. I could be wrong but I don't see him coaching that long.

You could do this exact thread and just replace "Saban" with "Miles" and "Bama" with "LSU" and it would work. Saban is 63. Miles is 61.

Wut? Your thread title sucks. Your main point is Saban is old and will retire one day. No shite. Thanks for the insight.

This isn't a flame, just a scenario that I see that has the potential to occur if certain things happen. I think it could be possible for Saban to leave Bama for Notre Dame as his final career destination. ND could be his dream job for several reasons.

1) It is said he likes to "build", but that's not entirely accurate. What he really likes to do is resurrect. Each career move has been a step-up, so to speak, from a program historical tradition level. Michigan State - LSU - Alabama. Bama, Ohio State, USC and Texas may all be on about the same elite scale level from a tradition and prestige standpoint, but Notre Dame tops them all.
2) Recruiting at ND would be even easier for him than it is at Bama. At Bama he has a national recruiting presence, but the south is his stronghold. At ND he would be able to recruit even more successfully on a national basis which would allow him to be more choosy when it comes to taking high character and intelligent, but physically talented kids.
3) Saban is well known for being a serious practicing Catholic. Resurrecting the most historically significant program that also is a Catholic institution would provide what he may see as some heavenly indulgences.

Kelly has Notre Dame respectable and expectations are always high, but they seem to just fall short of that expectation for one reason or another every year. If he continues to falter, ND will come calling when Saban's Bama contract nears expiration and Saban will be interested.

Kinda feels good when everybody wishes & prays for the day when our football coach leaves. And after 9 years and of his accomplishments they have to change the script to his retirement from Bama.
