Excuse me sport......................USC West, under Rod Dedeaux, won three more than UT has, at least, and might be a close third behind LSU. But the greatest?????????????? No.

Honestly his comments he just made about the league being far harder and demanding than he remembered is a wild statement to make.

It makes you wonder who at USC conducted the interview to hire him. I feel you could have known if the game passed him just by asking about who he would target and the current landscapes.

LOL you have 1 more championship than Texas does.

That is the ONLY and I mean only metric you lead by

You lose in every single other metric EVERY SINGLE ONE

Head to head: Texas
All time wins: Texas
Winning %: Texas
Postseason trips: Texas
Omaha trips: Texas

You are pretty damn silly if you think 1 championship wipes out significantly more consistent better results

Ray Tanner. Who may be the worst AD we have ever had.

Knew this was a disaster when he was hired. Lazy recruiter at LSU and he expected his same ole ways to translate to the shorter draft/nil/portal era?

Given how his tenure at LSU ended, what would occur with ole Paul at the helm of Carolina baseball appears both predictable in performance and outcome.

He has a 5 million buyout. He’s not going anywhere unfortunately. Thanks Ray Tanner

The destruction of the baseball program truly feels intentional at this point.

I cannot figure it out to save my life. The Holbrook hire made sense, just didn't work (plus, he's an arse). Kingston never should have been hired, at all, then took too long to fire. Mainieri came outta left field, and I'm convinced he was only hired because Tanner knew he couldn't talk the Board of Trustees into hiring Monte Lee (who he really wanted to give the job to) after Lee had *already* failed at Clemson.

Tanner is a phenomenal baseball coach. But he is, was, and always will be, a dreadful AD.

It was a very big mistake to hire him.....it will be a bigger mistake to keep him after this disaster of a season. He has shown what he can do......not much. The bigger mistake would be to go with Monte Lee. He was fired at clemsux for not producing and now clemsux is an elite team without him. Tanner screwed this whole thing up but he's gone. There is hope.

Yeah, I don't think USC would make the move. One year is not enough for anyone even if the writing is on the wall. If it's one year, Paul will decide that. JMHO

Texas has been better longer. LSU has been Consistently much better than Texas over the last 40 years.

Rayberry the AD and Ray Tanner the CWS Champion baseball coach are unfortunately two completely different people in our school's history - smdh
quote:

Paul Mainieri contract buyout details

If Mainieri were to be fired by South Carolina in the first three years of his contract without cause, USC would be obligated to pay the rest of his deal in full. (If he was terminated within Year 1, South Carolina would owe him $5.2 million; within Year 2, $3.9 million; within Year 3, $2.6 million.)

If he were to be fired in Years 4 or 5, South Carolina would owe him 50% of the money remaining in his deal. (In Year 4, $1.3 million; in Year 5, $650,000.)

If Mainieri were to leave USC for any reason other than becoming a head coach at a different college or university, he would not owe South Carolina any money. Otherwise, he would owe South Carolina however much money remains in his deal should he leave during Years 1-3, or 50% of the remaining deal if he leaves during Years 4 or 5.

here's the real kick in the D -
quote:

The committee also approved a new three-year contract for current associate head coach/hitting coach Monte Lee ($550,000 a year) and new pitching coach Terry Rooney ($425,000 a year).

Lee’s new contract makes him the highest paid baseball assistant in the country, according to Baseball America’s Teddy Cahill.

those two were both multi year contracts that would also require a buyout -

Tanner went rogue on the PM hire after he was trying to gauge interest in Virginia's O'Connor - who told Ray he should talk to Paul - so he did and two old coaches got caught up in a fantasy instead of reality -

Tanner also fired Kingston in an emotional moment without having a real secession plan in place other than his book of names in his desk drawer that had Dan McDonnell at the top - and his buyout was too much for the USC BoT to absorb - Tanner did the same thing with Holbrook's leaving as well after their end of season 'meeting' that went sideways - no plan beyond Kevin O'Sullivan who played Ray like a fiddle - so enter the malaise known as Mark Kingston -

factor in Chance Miller leaving for the CCU AD job a few days after Ray went rogue on PM hire - I think they were June 11 and June 14 or so where PM was hired and Miller was announced at CCU - and there was nobody to keep a check on what was really happening at with our opening -

Rayberry got to tell everyone on his way out last November that he hired a CWS Champion coach to take over Gamecock baseball - and he got his name on the field at Founders as part of his golden parachute into a 850K/year 'fundraising/gifts' position at Carolina -

meanwhile the program that Bobby Richardson built 55 seasons ago - is left smoldering in its ashes -

Plus, while I agree with the move, didn't they fire Kingston after making a regional last year?

Then to fire the next coach after the first year? PM was never the answer.

Best case scenario is they force him to retire.

Kingston was incredibly mediocre and it was very very clear that he would never be able to take this team to the next level.

But I honestly would've liked to see him for a couple years without Ray Tanner over his head.

Even as early as a week ago I would have said "no".

Now, not so sure. I believe his buyout is $7 million. That would be hard to swallow.

Sorry I didn't read all the other thread. Looks like buyout is closer to $5 million.
