Do they fire him after his first year or will they give him another couple years to try to right the ship? I'm still surprised that they hired him, it was so out of left field and unexpected. He did great things at LSU but the game has passed him by and he just doesn't have the fire he used to have in his glory days at LSU. Do Gamecock fans want him gone or do y'all want to give him another year or two? It's crazy seeing South Carolina perform so badly in baseball.

Genuinely interested in your opinions on him. What do y'all want?

It wouldn’t shock me if he resigned. He even said he underestimated the conference difficulty. But I doubt he’s gone after 1 year

Hopefully they just force him to retire so he can save face like we did.

I could see that happening too. I wanted him gone in his last few years at LSU but a first year head coach in any sport deserves some time to try to right the ship. Tough place to be in for Gamecock fans in my opinion. I don't know what he was thinking taking that job. Should have gone out on top from LSU and sailed off into the sunset but now his failure at South Carolina will be part of his legacy. I respect his desire to give it a try, but he should have seen the writing on the wall. Must've felt he had something to prove after the way his tenure at LSU ended.

He should have went to a mid-major who doesnt care for a few years riding into retirement if he just wanted to be a skipper for a bit again.

Taking the USC job was just more career suicide for him. Unless he hits the portal in a huge way this offseason they are cooked again for next year because they arent bringing in notable high school talent. They have got to bring in a number of starters from the portal, specifically on the mound for sure.

I do feel bad for him, he just doesn't seem the same since his dad passed away. The fire is gone so all they're left with is the worst of CPM. At least LSU had the CPM fire for a while until he petered out. He's such a great man and he genuinely cares about his players but the man just doesn't seem to get it.

I like Paul Mainieri, but I feel like that (and I think most agree) the game has passed him by.

I hope he can tun it around, but I do not think he has it in him

He even said he underestimated the conference difficulty

Sure that’d be fine if he was moving from another conference to the sec or even if he underestimated say the acc or big 12 after being in the sec. The sec has been the premier baseball conference since the mid 90s at least. And he isn’t that far removed from a stint at a sec school before taking the usce job. The only thing he underestimated was how much his age took a toll on him since he retired.

In a world gone mad this has to be the dumbest coach speak I've ever heard.

A) He coached in the SEC for 15 seasons

B) The SEC has won the past 5 championships and 6 of the last 7 because Arkansas couldn't catch a foul ball

C) The SEC added the most high profile program in NCAA baseball history

You cannot be that frickin dumb even if you are old as fuq

He should have taken the Notre Dame job after Jarrett left for FSU.

I really hope so, and I hope we pull the trigger on Elander....I just worry that State is beating us to the punch

I agree but his main problem is he relied on his assistants to recruit and used LSU prestige to make that work. Also, he never adjusted his recruiting with the uptick of the bats and fielded a smaller player type. The game actually passed him by years ago.

He should have taken over for the Baton Rouge Rougarou or head up to Cape Cod and coach over the summer
