overall yes

He’s the reason why we fell so far behind in the facilities race and fell behind in general

Yeah, no AD is ever going to be perfect, but the proof is in the trophy case. Might not like every decision he made, but clearly one of the best to ever do it. He was also all Gator and obsessed with winning. Not a coincidence his era was also one greatest runs in athletic department history. I'm honestly curious who could even compete with it.

I’m quite sure that you’re just a fan, so no, you do not “s*** on all of us”. What’s with Florida fans replying to the wrong posters? Surely this comment was not directed towards me and if it was, then bless your heart.

I would sort of agree with you, but say overall he was a good AD, but not for football, which is the main reason we have athletics. Also agree he was busy giving millions back to the university rather than keeping up with the facilities race. He is the reason Spurrier left, then he hired Zook, Meyer, Muschamp, and McElwain. Meyer was the only good hire, and we hired the prez from Utah who helped with that. That was a no brainer hire and he almost let Notre Dame come in and steal him.

The truth is that few care even a little about anything but football and some about men’s basketball.

The other titles are only paid any attention by those who win them. They are generally only touted by those who aren’t winning big in football.

In the South we care about College Baseball..the rest of the country does not at all. Except people in Nebraska.

It's still one of the better ones in the SEC but as long as football (which gets the most attention) is broken, the overall department will get looked over.

You must have missed that I was addressing your comment about Florida football, not Athletic Directors.

Don't want to get to into the weeds on this, but these decisions aren't really made by him.

The AD is the face of the department and has hiring responsibility, but the school president controls the purse strings. They ultimately decide what goes back to the school. How much can be spent on facilities.

Machen hated the optics of athletic spending while we were trying to improve our academic rankings. A lot of ideas died at his desk.

I would almost say that at Florida, obviously, football is king, but then it's baseball, then it's basketball. That's probably true for every SEC team except for Kentucky. Basketball is a distant third unless their basketball team is good; most fanbases in the SEC could not care less about basketball.

Florida's basketball is elite, so this is likely true right now. But I would also wager that for a lot of SEC fanbases, it's football, then whichever is better at the time. I would think basketball comes second at Arkansas and Missouri, no matter what, though.

At Indiana, it's basketball, football, and who cares about baseball. At Kentucky, it's basketball, football, and baseball.

Texas has the best overall athletic department.

But are we talking money sports or overall because that’s a huge difference?

No, Texas has the best overall athletic program in the SEC.

UF dominated this for years until UT joined the SEC, now the Gators and every other want to be in the conference are fighting for second.
