I love Arkansas fans and the rivalry we have with them. Great baws and ladies!

Arky/OleMiss holds an underrated hatred and rivalry. There is a lot of divided houses in SE Arkansas and Northwest Mississippi. Same goes for State and Bama. Results are lopsided, but the mix feelings are there.

Since Arkansas joined the SEC, the team that they have performed the best against given the talent disparity that usually exists between the two programs is Auburn.
I would argue that the talent disparity wasn't that much until a little over 10 years ago. I don't think Auburn has always recruited as well as they do today, so that's why I think it used to be more even. No denying that our suckage has been part of it, also.

I imagine it heated it up for a little while with Arkansas native Tuberville at UM. I think he would've been a better fit long term at Arkansas than Auburn, if y'all could've afforded him at the time but who knows
Tuberville wanted the job and note that Auburn didn't hire him until after Arkansas had hired Nutt. Same thing with Malzahn. Auburn hired him after we hired Bert.

I don’t consider it a real rivalry, but it is one of my favorite rivalry trophies. I know others make fun of the boot, but I actually think it’s a cool trophy.

The talent disparity was very little between the Nutt and Tuberville teams. The Nutt teams had four lopsided scores against Auburn.
It is the same with the Petrino years. It start tipping well in Auburns favor when Bert arrived.

Malzahn interviewed for the job when Nutt was fired. But many people still remember the Springdale 5 disaster and added to the fact he had very little college experience, it was treated as a courtesy interview than a serious one. Then I think he interviewed again after Petrino was fired. But was turned down but I'm not sure. That is why he runs up the score on us and not that he wanted to be here but his ego tells him that no one is more qualified for the job than him. He took it as an insult that Arkansas didn't hire him.

Most hog fans I know still brag about beating us during our 2007 Natty year...so that should tell you something.

Most hog fans were glad that Nutt was gone. Others were worried that the LSU win was enough to secure his job for another year.
Nutt already accepted the Ole Miss job three months before that game.

During the ‘69 game, Arkansas fight song was already changed to what it is now.
That was a classic rivalry. The ‘69 game epitomized the old SWC. Arkansas has it won. The early 2 point conversion by Texas was huge. The late Arkansas turnovers were costly, and there was no reason to throw when they were in FG range with a 14-8 lead.
Even the recent games since they stopped being in the same conference between UT and Ark have had some hatred. I was at the Texas Bowl when Arkansas blew the Horns out, and the fans were relentless.
On a side note, was there supposed to be a return game in Fayetteville after the 2008 game?

Is LSU a rival?
Our biggest rival is our own Good Ole Boy Network... in the past decade making multiple bumble-frick decisions effectively cratering the top two revenue programs.
It's a massive relief no one managed to frick up baseball. Jeff Long should have been beaten with an Easton BBCOR on the way out of town, and then the same bat should have gone up FatBert's lazy arse. Both of those guys can DIAF.
If we can get past that in-house opponent we'll be competitive once again.
Petrino showed football success is still there if a program commits to it, and the assholes with more money than sense manage to limit their input to money only.
Then maybe we could once again be a rival to LSU in football... a lot of damage to repair. Pittman and Musselman seem to be on the right track but a long way to go.

I believe it was estimated that 50 million Americans tuned in to watch that game. The SWC was a power conference unlike some people who want to make it out that it was a weak conference but that is far from the truth.

Don't forget the actions of Chancellor John White help destroying the basketball program. Frank Broyles almost fired Nolan in 90 after the final four but then Chancellor Dan Ferritor said no. Only because he couldn't get a long with Nolan.
They left the baseball program alone because it wasn't a big revenue producer. And Van Horn is the type to leave if they give him in too much grief. Only two coaches in baseball history, a sign of consistency.

Another thing that people don't know was that the Arkansas fight song was Dixie. But black students would protest running on the field if it was played. So it was changed to what we have today.
Arkansas did play Dixie through the 60's, but has had its current fight song since 1913.

Good to know because I thought it was the fight song.

I didn’t realize Ole Miss is considered such a big rival to Arkie fans. I do remember our beat writers talking about how hostile the environment was when Nutt returned to Arkansas as the Ole Miss HC. It’s a pretty even series with pretty even programs. Great tradition and history with recent down years.
I’d say Ole Miss fans would probably consider LSU MSU Alabama Auburn and then Arkansas in order of rivals.

The games were so heated that in 1960, fights broke out in War Memorial Stadium. Then the game was played in Jackson. After 1961 Both programs decided to cancel the series until both played again until 1981. It was more intense in the early 60s than any SEC game. But 20 years it cooled down but still both programs strongly disliked each other and fans still get into fights.

Texas am joining the conference forced it to stop. LSU and atm were kinda rivals and hated each other before they even joined the sec. We have a history with them with the two of us being so close geographically and bc we always have recruited Texas really hard and compete with them for talent. LSU and Texas am was going to be the rivalry week game for both schools as soon as they joined the sec.

Arkansas and A&M played each other 76 times. It would have been close to the 100 mark had they not stopped playing each other until 2009.
