Our true rivals has always been Ole Miss.

I was born and raised in the Mississippi River Delta, although I was born and raised a Hog fan since my parents are from SE Arkansas.

I always went to to our game against them in Jackson and in Little Rock. I was surrounded by Ole Miss fans every day, so the game always meant a lot to me. We kicked their arse every year.

If memory serves me correct, Ole Miss beat us in Little Rock in the early 90's, which was their first win against us in many, many years. Luckily by then, we had already moved to Arkansas and I didn't have to listen to those obnoxious SOB's.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but those brawls in Little Rock back in 1961 was damned serious. It is a shame that event isn't talked at all anymore.

I know from personal experience how how obnoxious and arrogant Ole Miss fans can get.

I imagine it heated it up for a little while with Arkansas native Tuberville at UM. I think he would've been a better fit long term at Arkansas than Auburn, if y'all could've afforded him at the time but who knows

Tuberville wanted the job and had the better resume by far than Nutt. But with Nutt's used car sales man tactics, he won over the dummies here.

I don't believe Tuberville would do much here. If wasn't for the 04 season at Auburn then his success would be similar to Nutt and that is average.

It felt like it could maybe sorta kinda be a rivalry back when Arkansas joined the league. Now it just feels like Mississippi State lite from a rivalry energy standpoint. There is no energy left in the hatred on either side. Arkansas football is going to have to really step it up to change that.

That was a forced Rival but I will say that Arkansas played the part better than A&M!

I appreciate your efforts to make Ark/Mizz a rivalry. It isn't happening unfortunately.

I suggested you go back to the B12 because it is where your actual rival in Kansas is. You just fit better there.

Mizzou left the Big 12 due to Texas!

On the other hand some Arkansas fans posted wanted to jump ship to the Big 12! How can you explained that? Not one Mizzou fan wants to go back to the Big 12!

Even that stadium isn't big enough to hold all of A&M's disappointments. Every advantage. Nothing to show for it.

My mother went to Texas and was in the band for the 1969 game in Fayetteville. Talk about a great moment for the sport. The Royal-Broyles era produced some great games, and they always seemed to have a national impact. Arkansas maintained success with Holtz and Hatfield, and UT was still pretty good under Akers. People forget those programs were still contending for a natty at times. Arkansas scores a big win over #1 Texas in 1981. The 31 point margin is still the biggest loss a #1 team has suffered to an unranked opponent.

I was at LSU during some peak LSU-Arkansas games. The stretch from 2005-2010 was damn good football games, and 2011 hit a high point in terms of national attention. The Boot would routinely come down to the end. The losses in 2007, 2008, and 2010 were tough to watch.

Arkansas-Texas will always be THE rivalry. LSU-Arkansas may have started out a bit manufactured, but it definitely delivered.

The problem is the AD and meddling boosters that don't what they are doing. Frank Broyles is a college football legend but he was the AD well into his 80s. His decision making were getting worse and he should have retired when he still had the ability to make good decisions. We had a chance to let Terry Don Phillips become the AD but he went to Clemson and hired Dabo Swinney. Swing and a miss.

Instead we got a-hole Jeff Long and he gave no shits a bout the school or the sports unlike Frank did. His decision making got us Bert who on paper was a good hire but his obnoxious personality rubbed hog fans the wrong way. He bragged and bragged but didn't take this job seriously.

Hog fans from all walks of life, rich and poor had enough of Jeff Long. So they came up with a reason and he got fired. Bert was fired a few weeks later.

This will eventually lead to our next blunders. Without an AD to take charge of our the search, a committee was appointed of former razorbacks that played from different sports. They had no idea what to do. Supposedly they picked Chad Morris but I believe the powers had more to do with that decision. The talk was the powers wanted Gus but Gus was using both Arkansas and Auburn to get more money. He was never coming here and I sure as hell don't want him here. But ever since he was rejected for the head coach job here in the past, he has a hard on for destroying Arkansas every chance he gets.

But going back to the search, it was as poorly done as you can get. Chad was hired before AD Hunter Yuracheck. Does that make any sense? The Chad firing was easy for Yuracheck as did not hire him.

But with the right AD in place that can act as a mediator between big money and the fans, you might have an AD that can make good decisions and not try to be a dick like Jeff Long.

All it takes is the right people and you will have something good going. Everything else is a bad excuse.

The 69 game broke Frank Broyles mentally. Arkansas had the game won but a few costly decisions let Texas back into the game and eventually won. He said that he will never watch the replays and never did even to his grave. I believe that game and the stress dealing with integration made him check out. His later seasons would reflect that and entering the 76 season, the team started 5-0 but injuries caused them to lose out. So the stress was enough for Frank that he and Royal retired the same year.

Lou Holtz would inherit a loaded team that included NFL Hall of famer Dan Hampton. That team still has the biggest upset in bowl history.

I would suggest read Hogs, Horns and Nixon coming. It talks a bout national events surrounding the game and players perspective from both teams.

Another thing that people don't know was that the Arkansas fight song was Dixie. But black students would protest running on the field if it was played. So it was changed to what we have today.

What was the story, Nixon named Texas national champions after the win against Arkansas? I remember hearing something like that.

Well before my time, but it seems like the slow integration process hurt the SEC: aside from Bama and Georgia, it was a pretty weak conference from about 1975-81 I'd say

How about we just give you the Boot? We need the room for more important trophies.

Yes Nixon did name Texas the national champions in Fayetteville. Texas went on to beat Notre Dame. Arkansas went on to lose to Ole Miss and Archie Manning. The book tells of how the Arkansas players were still devastated weeks after the loss. Ole Miss jumped to a big lead but Arkansas temporary put the loss behind them and stormed back. But it was too late and Ole Miss won 27-22.

The 69 game was the last game played between all white teams.

Alabama was still very good in the 70s. The rest of the SEC teams took turns as they would cycle up and down. None of them were as storied as Alabama.

I don’t. I think it is one of more intriguing games for sure (proximity) but not a rivalry. I dislike Ole Miss more. From a Football perspective they are more of a rivalry from my perspective.
