I thought the jump was a little high if you ask me. I did pick LSU to win that game on pickem because as I stated on a thread - Miami was going to face a legit defense, something LSU does have. I also knew that last year Miami was overrated and squeaked by a bunch of wins.
LSU should have made a jump just the same, maybe 5-6 spots but the jump they got tells me a lot of voters know little about what they vote on. I bet most don't even watch many games.

Agree. It's all "marketing" by the media to create buzz and generate clicks and viewership for early season games.

One factor is the networks would like a top 10 match up between LSU and Auburn next week. Anyone in the top 10 loses this weekend and it's possible.

Agree, they looked like a top 10 team in a stand alone game. The jump is warranted. Plus it's a week2 poll. If they are in fact not a top 10 team, then this division will flush them out.

I tend to agree there is too much politics in polls. Nobody really knows what LSU has yet but one thing I do know and knew coming into the season was that their defense was going to be salty. Miami probably has 2 or 3 future NFL players on that DL but you need more than just a DL to have a solid defense. Lsu has them everywhere.

Ya'll should remember this well, but painfully.
Unranked Wisconsin went to #10 the week after knocking off #5 LSU at Lambeau Field in 2016.

Unranked to #1 is far more impressive in my opinion.
You always have Ohio state and Oklahomas ready to push up and in to linger in any vacancy, hard to push past the big names, especially for MSU.
Auburn showed very well and only swapped spots with #6 while rest of top 5 played no one

Outside of maybe VT or West Virginia, who should be ranked ahead of LSU? It might have been a huge jump, but the teams they jumped didn't do a whole lot to suggest they shouldn't
