They overspent this year, especially in football with the Kelly buyout, and probably told the Big 3 coaches they are committed to spending whatever it takes to win annually.

They can’t sustain that in football where Lane relies heavily on Top transfer classes every year, this one reportedly $40M. Jay relies on top transfer classes in baseball too. Wade just got there with a raise and probably got promised transfer funds to leave NC State.

Recruiting stud blue chip HS players and developing them is cheaper than buying potential NFL round 1-5 draftee Transfers every year, or it’s equivalent in every sport as one year rentals.

It's weird that some of you speak so confidently on things you have no idea about.

To demonstrate your lack of knowledge, let's revisit some of your past takes:

You said Kelly wasn't on the hot seat, roughly one month before he was fired -

quote:

With Jimbo’s buyout, every buyout is “cheap”. Except for probably Kelly and DeBoer, who are both probably +$60M. They aren’t on the hot seat tho.

You said Oklahoma State "probably couldn't afford to fire Mike Gundy", roughly 4 days before he was fired -

quote:

Gundy must be hanging it up soon. He’s not even trying these past 2-3 years.

$15M buyout though. Probably can’t afford to let him go. Drops to $10M in 2 years.

You said Brian Kelly wasn't getting fired "for years" in August 2025 -
quote:

His buyout is astronomical. He’s not getting fired for years.

And again, in June 2025 -

quote:

No way you guys got $60M, you can’t move him until that’s below $20M at least.

And yet again, in June 2025 -

quote:

The real issue is that they can’t afford to buy Kelly out for 4 more years, and I always forget that.

Based on that, I think we can all agree that JayAg is just another Rant wishcaster who has absolutely no idea what the frick he's talking about.

Imagine sitting in your Houston apartment covered in Cheetos confidently spouting about how you’re privy to a rival program’s financials. This board is the epicenter of loser

"I know I've been wrong literally every time before but I promise this time, LSU is truly broke."

Been hearing it since before O was fired.

Number one portal class in football and baseball, 20 million dollar basketball NIL budget…but apparently our donors are unaware this upcoming athletic season in fact not the last athletic season and we are out of money

A lot of LSU posters also believed Kelly’s buyout would keep him there for a few more years. Kelly’s loss to A&M and Florida going after Lane is probably shifted things.

Legitimate question (dangerous I know) - how is the team going to be next year? I saw the 25 year old from Israel who was drafted into the NBA in 2022 was just declared ineligible and a couple others are likely also going to be ineligible. Are y'all expecting a good team / were those fringe players? Or is this going to be a rough rebuilding year?

No doubt. But thinking something and it being factual are two very different things.

A lot of folks here like to throw out their opinions as if they're actually fact when those same folks have zero idea what they're actually talking about.

It depends really. We have a lot of international kids committed that still have to go through the legal process.

As it stands with our current commits we are absolutely a tournament team, but we could make a huge run if we find the right point guard. A lot of size, athleticism, and veteran experience. This is expected to be a one year deal going after veteran Europeans.

The legitimate guys have said Wade has has much as 20 million he can spend depending on who he lands so we’ll see.

ETA: LSU is expecting all of its other international commits to be eligible. RJ Luis will be tricky but many have hinted it’ll be a kangaroo court like Trinidad had in Mississippi

To be fair BK got a massive buyout, just like Jimbo. Both were on the hot seat but it is still more likely a coach is allowed to stay longer to get the buyout down rather than ripping off a bloody bandage and paying the megabucks.

Perhaps there is some confusion over the concepts of “broke” in the present day versus “unsustainable” over the long term.

I can’t imagine even a billionaire wanting to outlay hundreds of millions in dead money over an infinite term, especially without the associated returns of a team owner.

Sure, wealthier programs can hang on longer, but at the current rate no one can afford this.

I think everyone believes the current model is unsustainable.

Exactly. This isn't a fundraising campaign. They are being introduced to Dr. Rousse's plan to generate revenue going forward. That is what he does. He's a money guy.

Hard to understand what that is if not PE.

All joking aside, I do hope this isn't a situation where LSU is about to announce a PE deal.

The moment that gets into the SEC anywhere things will get really shitty for everyone in the conference.

What if they announce an LSU cryptocurrency and NFTs?
