The 4 team pod idea is dead

It will be either:
3 permanent, 6 rotating every other year
Or 1 permanent, 7 rotating every other year

For the 9 team schedule, you have to break it down to the Big 8 teams (Bama, Auburn, UF, UGA, LSU, OU, Tx, A&M). Ha, ha at Tennessee.

All would get two of the big 8 as their permanent.

All of the little 8 would get two little sisters as their permanent.

The little 8 are against the 9 team because they want the 3rd rent a win non conference game to get bowl eligible. If the SEC stops the rule of having to play 1 power 5 in the non conference, the little 8 may go along with the 9 team schedule.

I'd love the 1P/7R. We have too any great programs to limit access to each other. If you want to play a specific team more, then schedule it as a OOC game.

For 3 p /6 r it’s Hard to imagine Uga and Tennessee not playing every year. There are other scenarios where certain rivalries won’t play every year.

But playing every team every two years is a great idea and May suffice.

Is there a breakdown of the 1p7r and 3p6r?

In a 3P/6R model you would get every team in the conference in a two year span. You rotate the 6 rotaters every season.

If you get 1P/7R so many of the rivalries will not be played every season.
Bama and Auburn could only play each other, not their beloved Tennessee and Georgia games.
The 3 team permanent allows for most rivalries to continue.

I don't think that's viable, as which are the 8 best teams will naturally fluncuate.

You really have to include the old rivalries for which Tennessee is still a part of.

Tennessee needs to play Florida, Alabama and Uga.

Being an lsu fan I want to see us keep:
Alabama
Auburn
Florida

They really do t consider us rivals but those are the fun games.

Auburn needs Alabama and Uga

Florida USCE and Uga have a great caveat where one of their rivals is ooc.

Alabama’s schedule of Auburn, Vandy, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi State, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Arkansas is gonna be tough.

I don't understand why rivalries can't play every other year and still be as exciting... Seems like its still close enough that every player gets to play in the rivalry and you still can root against them any time.

Doesn't seem like a deal breaker to me.

Man I wish we had pods. It would allow for the most balance and the lost even schedules. 3 permanent and 6 rotating is likely going to screw someone (auburn) from a difficulty standpoint and someone (LSU) from a “rivalry” perspective.

If it’s not 4 team pods, 1p7r is how I’d like to see it.

Really?

For one or two seasons the top 8 fluctuates, but over time, when will these not be the top 8?

Bama
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
LSU
Oklahoma
Texas/Texas A&M/Tenneseee

That’s pretty much set in stone.

Uga and vols aren’t old Rivals. SC and uga are old rivals however.

1p 7 rotating is interesting but a lot of rivalries will get thrown out the window with that. Bama will have to choose between Auburn and Tenn. Aub between Bama and Georgia. Georgia between Florida and Auburn. Someone will get left out of the mix.

Then someone would get stuck with Vandy or Mizz, sorry no disrespect, each year as a rivalry.

As an Arkansas fan I would be happy with OM, LSU, Texas or OU as a permanent rival but realize we likely get stuck with Mizz.

If we absolutely have to do rotation, then 3/6 makes a ton more sense than 1/7, as long as the 3 make sense and aren't having to be shoehorned in like the Texas A&M/South Carolina game.

Give me Texas, LSU, Arkansas and/or Oklahoma. Texas would be a must, the other 3 just whatever.

I want it to be 3/6, and I think it will be. I think the only reason to go 1/7 is if you REALLY want to avoid a 9 game conference schedule.

But there is a lot of money in adding those games. I think that’s what we’ll do.

(And I’ve been saying as much since the expansion was announced. I’ve collected a bunch of downvotes from people who pushed the pods.)

Tennessee can't have 4 or 5 mandatory rivalries every year.
