Based on that pattern 6-6 in 2019, 8-5 in 2020, and 10+ wins in 2021

...and that keeps the pattern, going back to the early '80s that we make a run at the SEC every 5-7 years and a realistic run at MNC 9-10 years, with some deep valleys in between. All things considered (strength of conference, difficulty of schedule, geographic location in regards to recruiting, never getting a fair-shake from most sports writers in the state, 80% of the state's population hate the program, etc.) that's not bad. 85% of the programs in the country would take those stats in a heartbeat.

The offense returns the entire Oline

This is what I'm most curious about. Our O-line returns everybody but everybody sucked last year. Every position. And before someone gives me the Prince Tega story, he sucked too. Our line got ROUTINELY schooled by pretty much every P5 team we played except Purdue.

Can you polish a turd? We shall see.

If only they spent half as much time recruiting OLs as they do WRs, we don't utilize, we would have a great offense. 2013 was the last good OLine we had and isn't coincidence the last great offense we had.

I know our O-line struggled last year, but there was significant improvement down the stretch. I thought the O-line played best against our biggest 2 rivals and best two teams we played. The pass blocking was much better, QB JS was playing scared most the year and alot of times all he had to do was step up in pocket instead of dropping eyes and leaving to his weak side.

As for QB, I think Joey gets the nod but B. Nix is a legit 5star Generational player and will not suprise me if Joe doesnt get the offense rolling if Bo is starting by week 4. I do believe in Joey though. So i think we will be fine either way.

Our Dline should be one of best in country and if we can pollish the buck position and get a legit pass rushers Which i think we can...possibly TD Moultry, Richard Jibunor, maybe one of the frosh Derick Hall or Colby wooten step up...Idk lots of options but thats the only thing we need on Dline, LBs are going to have some growing pains but will be backed by a legit secondary and Dline. I think by weeks 4 we are in stride both O and D wise and I think we can make a run if We dont shoot ourselves like we have been known to do. WDE.

I’m interested to see what Gus cooks up on offense, and how he adjusts in live game action when a defense poses an obstacle to his scheme. Gus likes his “script”, we’ll see if he can evolve and trust an inexperienced QB.

people keep pointing Gus & Leaths buddy-buddy buyout clause , but you can bet your arse that if this season ends up being no better than 5/6 wins Gus will be joining the unemployment line in late November, don't think that the deep pockets werent already trying to find a way to get him out of here after the Tennessee game last year if A&M hadn't pulled their best impersonation of "Chokelahoma" in JH last year im willing to bet money Gus would've been given his walking papers after the IB

Gus only scripts the first few plays. It's no different than calling random plays to start a game to see how you match up.

What is wrong with the OL? Is it talent, not strong, footwork, cohesion, etc?

I watched y’all play Miss St, UW, and Bama. I mean those front sevens had multiple draft picks. Then I watched you play Purdue. Of course, Holts is used to getting punished in bowl games.

the Music City Bowl was a very pleasant surprise and it left us heading into the offseason with a better taste in our mouths. Most importantly, it seemed to be an indicator for the future instead of a blip of success on the radar. That was the game where Gus Malzahn said “screw it, I’m calling these plays” after Chip Lindsey left, and he took control back in a big way. You saw it, but even against an overmatched and slow B1G team, 56 first-half points is unbelievable. Now during the spring, Gus has apparently been much more hands on in his coaching approach

Well, I honestly knew nothing about this and it's kind of scary for the SEC.

Malzahn unleashed and left to his own devices, with complete control of play calling, will likely unleash hell and it's demons given even a small opportunity.

I'm talking Springdale High School type complete dominance. An air raid that will make Hal Mumme and Mike Leach both shite their pants simultaneously could very well soon make an appearance.

Gus is, no joke, the greatest offensive mind the game of college football has ever known but, he has been hindered and cut short in his implementations of his game-plans.

His early to mid 2000's high school teams, with Mustain at the helm, were the best high school teams to ever exist in the the history of the sport.

To me it looks like we dont have a lot of talent except for our LT, and he is a converted DL who has never played OL until his redshirt freshman year. He has potential to play in the NFL, but the other guys are mid-low 3* guys, talent-wise. I know someone on here will "correct" me and say Kim and Braums (C) were 4* guys but they arent 4* talent. Harrell at G shows some ability but he's not quick enough and Horton, the other G, is terrible. Our OL coach is an old school guy that has difficulty recruiting and connecting with the young bucks. Go figure. I hope I'm wrong and we come on strong. I'll eat crow all day, but I dont see it happening. And if you think we're bad on the OL this year, wait till every single one of these guys is gone next year. It is frightening to gaze into the black hole of no-talent stiffs behind these guys. We need 3 straight years of solid OL recruiting to fix this mess and I dont believe Gus will survive long enough.

If we get better than average QB play we will be a factor in the SEC race. If it's young and inconsistent then we will be a 7-9 win team like any other year. If our D stays healthy and our OL continues on the same trajectory there is little chance we will bottom out this season.

I disagree. The RG & C sucked last year. They played pretty well the last half of the season, but the playcalling sucked except for the bowl game.
