the Music City Bowl was a very pleasant surprise and it left us heading into the offseason with a better taste in our mouths. Most importantly, it seemed to be an indicator for the future instead of a blip of success on the radar. That was the game where Gus Malzahn said “screw it, I’m calling these plays” after Chip Lindsey left, and he took control back in a big way. You saw it, but even against an overmatched and slow B1G team, 56 first-half points is unbelievable. Now during the spring, Gus has apparently been much more hands on in his coaching approach

2. Any idea on the starting quarterback battle between vet Joey Gatewood and five-star freshman Bo Nix?

3. The offense returns a couple linemen and some experienced backs. Did it feel like the running game may be coming back this spring?

4. On defense, we know a lot of the big names returning. Any new players emerge?

With the bulk of the defensive front coming back, and a couple of projected first-rounders in that group, we may only need the rest of the defense to be alright to compete every week. That said, there are some dudes who have taken the next steps on defense, including KJ Britt at linebacker.

5. The whole “Fire Gus” thing has become a bit of a joke, but is there any sense that the pressure is real for the program right now?

We check in on how the spring went on the Plains for the Gus Bus with College and Magnolia’s Jack Condon.

My money is on Gatewood.

FIFY. I'm really excited about adding DJ Williams and Mark Antony-Richards also. There really was nobody on their caliber behind Boobee

Played a lot of freshmen last year. I'm sure they will be ready this year.

Even though Auburn is loaded for a championship run, I won't get my hopes up with ole Gussy.

Might as well speak for every D1 program, with that one. You could make an exception for Kentucky, maybe.

I didn't even make it this far. your delusion has been made apparent, by your own doing.

I’m not at all getting my hopes up to championship levels, but this is exactly the type of Auburn team that would go on some ridiculous run in the past. However, I’ll believe it when I see it this time.

You could have all of the talent in the world, you still have a systematic coach stuck in his self fabricated play book blanket.

The same systematic coach who made a ridiculous run in 2013.
We're going to find out pretty quickly who's been to blame for the stagnant offense the last few years.

You think it's delusion when a team returns their entire Oline and most of their Dline (that has 1st round draft picks), and have their 2 toughest games at home, to think they might have a chance at a championship run?

I know thUGA fans know nothing about championships, but come on.

Hey, I'm not opposed to being proved wrong. I'd love to see him figure it out, and become consistent. IT just really bothers me, how often he changes nothing up, and it yields the same garbage results. You can't plug and play personnel into a system, and hope it works even when it doesn't... How many times does he have to see it before he becomes aware?

What is this? You come across as a child.

Winning the SEC "championship", must not count.

You could be right. However, you can't evaluate an SEC west coach strictly on W/L. The west exposes even minor flaws throughout the season. Look at UGA. They cruise through the east, but struggle when playing western teams.

Also, I'd consider it delusion that you think Auburn is the only team coming into some Sophomore talent. We can talk O-lines, if you want, but I'm pretty sure most conversation with you is biased and not worth the effort.

Didn't even once consider W/L ration, in this regard. I actually watch more than one game a weekend and have seen it firsthand. It's like the guy forgets he has more than 4 plays he can run. He held Stidham back, the kid's in a much better place, now.

I still say 8/9 wins is our ceiling. but truth be told if you follow the history of Auburn football under Gus...…..then history says

2013 - 12-2 & SEC Champs
2014 - 8-5
2015 - 6-6
2016 - 8-5
2017 - 10-4 & SEC West Champs
2018 - 8-5
2019 - ?

2019 should be ten win season followed by a 6/7 win season next year

Based on that pattern 6-6 in 2019, 8-5 in 2020, and 10+ wins in 2021.

I think AU will be good this year. I look forward to the LSU v. AU game this year. Should be a classic grudge match. Bring it on Aubie. Can’t wait to see y’all in Baton Rouge.

Where did I say this? I just pointed out Auburn played a lot of freshmen last year.

I'm one of the most critical fans of my own team. I even said in my OP that I wasn't getting my hopes up because of Malzahn. Guess you missed that part.

But to say it's delusion to think a team with a veteran Oline and Dline, with a more favorable schedule, may be able to have a championship season, that's pretty dumb.

Why has Gus seemingly gone away from what works with his offense re:QB? It’s plain as day that his offense is 100x better with a runner back there.
