East:

I think UF under this coach has the ability to make teams in the EAST earn it.

UT? Do they have the Defense?

UK? The touted QB has not really been impressive.

None the less, these are the 3. I'm going to say UF over UT.

WEST:

Every year, we all know who the team to beat is. Every year, we all know the team that under achieves. Let's remove those... one isn't a dark horse and one has sent many great coaches to the grave yard, and I look forward to seeing them clash after the off season jabs.

Who does that leave? Ole Miss, Arkansas, LSU, and Ms St.

LSU is a talented team, but the issues and transfers and a new system is too much for them to contend imo. It's not that I think they hired wrong, it's just not there this year.

Ole Miss.. won a lot of games last year and then the Great Lane failed to recruit. I think he felt that his stop there would move him up the chain elsewhere. Full out reports from Ms coaches stating he isn't even reaching out nor showing up to recruit. He went portal. When a coach is looking to move on... it always shows up on the field.

That leaves Arkansas and MS ST...

Arkansas has a great guy coaching. He has a returning QB but what he doesn't have is Burks, the guy that made that QB look better than what he is. My opinion only. Ok, yeah.... they hit the portal and got a guy or 2.... but they are not the beast that Burk was.

Ms St may have the best case and a major chip on their shoulders. they return 18 starters from a team that was within 8 points of being a 10 win team. They were a FG away from it. Having that many returning means not many holes to fill. They did that through the portal and they did a great job with it. They got 2 FG kickers and added depth to the secondary. With record breaking starters returning, they are getting ZERO love.... and there is the chip.

It's a hard choice between Ark and Ms St. But I have to go with the team that returns the most experience and was that close to being a 10 win team. MS ST.

NCAA Wide?

Baylor.

Baylor is top 10 right now, not really that much of a dark horse. I like the MSU pick.

SEC East: Florida

SEC West: Ole Miss - offense will take a step back having lost corral but we are better at RB and Oline. Defense should be improved too.

NCAA: Oklahoma St, though I also like Utah

West?

Ole Miss, hands down.

ETA: Arkansas has to be in that mix as well.

You are ranked 6th in the nation and finished 2nd in the West last year. How would you be a dark horse?

My apologies I misread the title, I thought it was the SEC champ, not split, if it’s just the West on our side..

I’ll say Arkansas, they have the most consistent team, especially if part of the equation is beating Bama. I’m not crazy about 3-4 defense teams tho. Ole Miss might not have the defense to hang with Bama. LSU has the talent but it’s a big ask with a brand new offense/defense scheme. Miss State has a shot. I’d say 1a. Arkansas, 1b. Miss State.

So wait, you said 7-6 Miss State was “that close” to being a 10 win team…

Over Arkansas who finished 9-4, and lost to Ole Miss 52-51 because we missed a 2 pt conversion as time expired to win.

You are really special.

Kentucky--East; Ole Miss--West. Both meet in Oxford in early October after playing four games.

Unfortunately Vandy will still be lucky to win a single SEC game

This may be A&M's year. They can get over the hump and get to 9-3.

Yes. One of those against Ark. And let's face the reality of it. You won by 3. Had to have the help of MS St's FG kickers (missed what... 4) at HOME!.

Mst was down... came back and went ahead with 2:30 minutes left. Yes, you scored took the lead.. BUT again, Ms ST had a chance for the tie at the end.

You lost way more than they did, and you play them on their field this year.

We lost some people, and replaced them with starters from Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma.

We’ll be fine. Arkansas is 2-0 against Miss State. Odom has Leach figured out.

Burks was great no doubt, but I don’t see how him leaving will have a negative impact on our rushing game. And if folks stack the line we’ll make them pay through the air with an improved receiver corp instead of one guy.

This is the first year as OC that Briles has a returning starting qb so he’ll be ahead of where we were last year with the majority of the offense back plus more speed and numbers in the receiver position. We’ll miss Burks no doubt, but it’s far from a death blow.

Arkansas doesn't have a Burks but Sam was asked a question concerning WR depth and he said that he has the numbers unlike these last two years.
