If LSU informally tried to retire # 9, then they were asking for trouble. The first prima donna that comes along will always take exception. You don't start a ridiculous tradition in the first place. Burrow is not worthy of all that nonsense in the second.

There are very few numbers in college football that deserve to be retired. With the transfer portal and NIL it is even fewer who deserve the honor. These guys don’t choose a program because they love the school, they come for a paycheck and to do their job. So do your job, move on to the NFL and be happy.

Cam Newton’s #2 was just officially retired at Auburn last year (after about 15 years). Although nobody wore #2 since Cam had worn it.

So lets retire the number of the best player at every position. The new 3 digit numbers the current and future players will be wearing will look great! "Starting at QB, number 113, Joe Smith. Retiring numbers is stupid as are duplicate numbers on the roster for a game. You can only dress out a max of 85 at home. 1-99 without duplicates should cover.
