We should take FSU to keep the big 10 out of Florida. I doubt they take Miami over their lack of fan support.

This is madness. How about everyone just go back to where they came from, and be a 10 charter member SEC conference.

Absolutely not.
Terrible cultural fit.
Huge travel issues.
Questionable monetary benefit.
Hard no.

The thing people misunderstand is that being good at football or having a good fanbase really isn't the key factor with expansion right now. It's not about footprint either. It's about national fan interest.
Now I know, many would say "Lots of people watch FSU". And while that's kind of true... nobody tunes in for FSU vs random mid-level P5 opponents. Nobody watched FSU vs BC or FSU vs Duke. They won't watch FSU vs Mississippi State or FSU vs Purdue either.
FSU is not a blue blood who drives interest by themselves. Texas and Oklahoma ARE that level of team. FSU and Clemson are not. The only team like that not aligned with either the Big 10 or SEC right now is Notre Dame. They are the only school the Big 10 or SEC would expand in order to grab. Nobody else is financially worth it for the two big conferences.

Florida State : WE HATE THE SEC!! F U!!
Also Florida State: Can we join...?

None of this makes financial sense for entire athletic departments. CFB should decouple from the NCAA, have the schools go back to their traditional conferences for everything except football. How does having a women’s volleyball team traveling from Eugene, OR to Baltimore, MD for a conference game make any sense at all?

Negative. I don't want to send my minor sports teams to the PNW regularly to play matches. And imagine it in reverse. WA and OR will be traveling to Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska. That is already a burden for them, and now we propose to swap out the midwest for the southeast?
I sometimes think the real solution is to go back to regional conferences for all sports except for football.

> one SEC source
OK
>The SEC's goal is to play a level of football that appeals to a national audience. It also already has schools in Florida (the University of Florida) and South Carolina (the University of South Carolina).
We already had a school in Texas too

Lets be honest here... Miami is more desirable than South Carolina.

Correct but I disagree and think people would tune in to watch FSU vs UGA or Clemson vs Bama. Its about brands and there arent many brands left not in the SEC or B1G

The Big10 should try to snatch up FSU, Clemson, a North Carolina school, and Miami like yesterday

I'm be cautious about adding Clemson. Let's see how much of a brand they are if they continue their downward trend post 2020.

FSU and UNC or NC State is the move. Or even Miami.

Y'all think UF fans are fairweather and want to add Miami?

We didn't have the flagship school in Texas
And, Texas is twice as big a state as Florida. Several times the size of South Carolina.
It makes no sense to add Clemson and FSU unless you are getting UVA and UNC as well.
Texas was a unique situation. You can't compare UT to Clemson and FSU.

I can understand why current SEC schools would not want Clemson and FSU. The SEC wouldn’t be getting any new tv markets opened up to the conference. Really no gain in the move other than adding to strong football schools to the league and strengthening the conference.
All that said though let’s just be honest about it. the SEC is in an arms race with the Big 10. We don’t want strong southern teams joining up with the Big 10 and opening up shop in the backyard of the SEC and giving the Big 10 legitimate access to fertile southern recruiting grounds. The SEC should snap them up and make the Big 10 take a team like South Florida instead of letting them have access to strong football schools so Big 10 teams can make the claim with recruits that they can play big games in the Big 10 in front of friends and family.

even though their school has been playing every year since 1953 and USC withdrew in 1971...

The B1G is going to collapse itself.
Out of absolute desperation to regain some relevance in Football they took the best football schools in the PAC12.
The B1G is in shambles and it won't last. Who knows how they are going to handle conference schedules going forward. It's going to be a mess.
Still stuck with an entire division of teams with no chance at all now.
They still won't win in football even with USC added.
