What happened to Rice? They used to be damn good at baseball.

Wayne Graham retired in 2018 he built Rice baseball. He was my all time favorite baseball coach that didn't coach for Texas even though he played for Texas back in the late 50s. RIP he was a legend I will go to my grave swearing his Aardsma, Humber, Niemann, & Townsend rotation is the greatest in college baseball history.

Now with NIL they probably never will return to the heights he built them up to.

I think it was a true double elimination tournament all the way through back then.

1987 was the last year of the true double elimination format they went to the two bracket format with a single championship game from 1988-2002 I know because in 1989 Texas became the first team to not win the CWS despite only having one loss.

To put the CWS into perspective I went to the 2002 championship game between Texas and South Carolina we walked straight up to the box office at Rosenblatt the day before the game and bought 3rd row tickets behind the 3rd base dugout for $25 a piece. I had no idea the magic I was dealing with back then

I went every year from 2002-05 got to party with the Street family at Starsky's after the 2002 championship then going to have victory steaks at Drover with them was definitely the all time highlight.

Troy was back to back Division II College World Series Champions in 1986 and 1987. I was there as a little kid in 1987. So it's been nearly 40 years since Troy played for a natty in baseball. A long long time ago.

The most underrated part of that graphic is that the North Colorado Bears have not made the NCAA Division I baseball tournament since I have been alive and yet they have still been more times than Texas A&M as a school in it's entire history

Also this is UNCs 13th appearance so they didn't fully update it also that puts UNC in sole possession of first place on the most appearances without a title list if they don't win this year. They were previously tied with Arkansas and Clemson.

Ok. I don’t feel as bad that we didn’t pull that out. Those fans deserve the appearance.

We’ll get there. Forbes is building a remarkable culture at UNC.

I have no doubt y'all have been pretty consistent the past 20 years it's only a matter of time if you keep it up.

Clemson is the real head scratcher right now. I thought for sure when they hired Erik Bakich he would get them humming again and yet for his 4th year they flat out sucked.

Arkansas should have already won they just need to stop stepping on their own junk but who knows if that day will ever come

Learned something new today. UGA’s 1990 CWS title was the first win by a SEC school.
I remember that team. Had a really good pitcher named Fleming, I believe. Don't remember any of the other players. I think it was a true double elimination tournament all the way through back then.

I watched it. If memory serves, UGA won it on a called strike three.

I'm retroactively conflicted over that game now. LOL

he's got Jacklegg back in the dugout with him - that's why -

FTR - LSU bringing back fired coaches this past few months is not a new thing - Clem is the OG - Jacklegg came back the day of Bakich's hiring press conference -

We were pretty good in the late 90s; 1996-1999 we made the CWS three out of four years.

The biggest thing is we were always solid/good, but almost never great. It’s why other teams have more hardware despite us having winning records over most of them.

Good for them, but still nowhere close to FSU with 24 trips to Omaha sans a title.

LSU fans on the Tiger Rant are more butthurt over the Tigers not playing in the CWS, than Ole Miss fans still are over the Tiger Viking Raid, Pillage and Plunder.

They can't stand it that 5 SEC teams are in Omaha and they aint!

They’ve been close but usually lose in super regional. Shame for a once proud program but it’s trending in the right direction finally.

You do realize Wayne Graham took Rice to the postseason 23 years in a row and that the school has never made it in any season without him right?

That has far more to do with it than NIL....
