The irony being lost, I'm sure, by most ITT is that almost all of the coaches getting these paydays..... ARE former players. There are plenty of guys who played for your school that I'm sure are on your FB staff in some capacity right now for no other reason than they played ball there. Every school as an alumni network that looks to put these guys to work based heavily on the fact that they played ball. If your school is worth a damn, and everyone in this conference is, if the players have the qualifications needed and ask for help career wise, it is given to them. There are many opportunities to get ahead that have nothing to do with the NFL.
Flip side of that is: how many of those opportunities are afforded to the non-athlete population?

Did you go to college? Not insulting you at all. My pint is if you did did you have student loans? I graduated 2005. I'm still paying mine. College is ridiculously expensive. Athletes are getting paid a lot of money and the ones that don't graduate are given a huge stage to make millions in the NFL.

Why does everyone want a school to become an employer?
Why don't we ask employers to be employers and have schools stay as schools?
Jump back away from college football and bitch at the NFL for excluding 18 year olds. Let the NFL buy the guys that they want to buy, and leave college football out of the employer/employee business.

They're welcome to skip college and work on their skills with a trainer if they don't like the idea of getting a catered, free education.

You don't want that. Your beloved CFB would suck, just like what's happened with CBB.

The players change every year. I root for my Alma mater. I root against yours.
The quality of my team's commits does not change my allegiance.

You pay the football players, you will have to pay the female softball players, the volleyball players, the debate team, the basketball players etc, etc, etc.
As far as I am concerned, the players do get paid....it's called a scholarship.
Once you pay the players the greatness of college sports is over....of course that is probably what you want.

The ‘free’ education is a 1 year commitment from the school. You can’t get a degree in one year. If this was about education, the NCAA would require schools to assure an athlete got this “free”education as long as they met the base academic requirements and Team/AD rules... until they graduate with a degree.
It’s not really a free education if you run a guy off to open a spot up... or “process” as you Millenials call it.

While I was at the Sugar Bowl Monday I thought that Lots of people were making money off the game except the ones we were there to watch, the players.

If football players were good enough to play in the NFL straight outta high school, like basketball players are with the NBA, then the NFL would be drafting them. They've drafted high school players before.
Otherwise college players develop and learn how to play football enough to earn tens of millions in the professional ranks, thanks to their time in college.
And those who don't develop well enough, are still given a college scholarship for free that they can turn into a career livelihood as well, if they know what to do with it.
And the vast majority of revenues earned by CFB programs are put straight back into facilities and other amenities that specifically benefit those student-athletes that helped generate it: to look at all these huge FB stadiums, state-of-the-art IPFs and now the latest rage in FB Ops facilities, and say that players aren't already "getting paid", is being a bit disingenuous....

Players deserve to get paid. People on here won't admit it, because they are afraid that it will mess up college football. They are a bunch of cowards that hide behind false motives.
I think the current system is anti-capitalism.

There is no reason not to pay the players. Well there is one big main reason not to, and that is greed. For this to be America, where capitalism reins supreme, one would think that a industry which makes billions of dollars would pay the people who brings in most of that money (student athletes) instead of bartering with them in giving them a free education and room/board?
