Chips are down: Has the gameday grind become too much for your old bones?

Whether traveling for hours, or hosting because you live in the destination town, has it all become too cumbersome by the end of a long day of drinking, getting beat by the sun, hootin' and hollerin'?
And if you're a family man,. replace the degeneracy with corralling your family to stay on schedule and together

I got the VIP treatment once about 10 years ago, shuttled directly to a luxury suite. Thats what ruined it for me.

It's the expense, not the hassle.
I have a family of five. Tickets and concessions are expensive, yo. And I make very good money. I don't know how people do it on the regular.
My wife and I are planning a trip to Italy later this year. The plane tickets and hotel reservations are not much more than a season of football tickets.

I still make an effort to go. There are only 6-7 home games a year and the in-person experience is always better than it being on TV. I watch sports all year long on TV, it gets old after a while. Give me a great environment watching college football any day of the week over that.

For me? No. I still absolutely love it. For hauling family there and back? Quite a pain. I do it for the sake of my kids having the same experience that I did over 30 years ago at Faurot Field with my dad and grandfather.

Honestly, kind of but its really started to get dependent on the product put on the field. My Dad and i started getting season tickets to Memphis football in the early 2000's (DeAngelo Williams years) and finally stopped a couple of years ago. In my younger days i could sit through some of the worst football imaginable but now im at the point of where im not going to waste my entire Saturday to watch a sub par product (sorry Arky fans but get ready for some of the most boring football youve ever seen). Plus, now ive got younger kids that want to do everything at the stadium except watch the game so its also a money pit and im lucky if i get to watch all 4 quarters. We might do a game or two a year and im interested to see what Huff will do so we'll catch at least one this year (sans kids)

I go much less now. Maybe once every other year. The ticket prices are absurd and I don't like being around people as much.
When I was in school I went to every home game and it was awesome.

I'd play on Thursday nights, we'd go to the high school game on Friday, drive to A&M from Houston (dad had season tickets) on Saturday, and then watch Cowboys on Sunday, and then with MNF offering some good matchups as well. Five straight days watching football was pretty badass.

I used to be all in on going to games almost every weekend. We had season tickets at Troy after I graduated for several years. Then my dad and I would go to Tuscaloosa maybe 2-3 games a year. And we'd pick one road game to travel to. Started having kids, and as they got older with other activities going on it got harder and harder to go in person, and my dad got too old to deal with walking, stadium stairs, parking etc. Now we maybe go to 1-2 a year. Easier to have a cookout and watch from home. My oldest just moved off to college too, so I'll be going to cross country and track meets to watch her run for her school.

For me, I'm single, so tickets and concessions are not that big of a deal. It's the travel cost that would absolutely eat me alive if I didn't have a friend who lets me stay at her house. Of course, I do give her a ticket to any game she wants to attend, so it's not totally free, but it's still a heck of a deal when you live four hours away and have season tickets for football and baseball.

It's a shame what's happened to Memphis football. The schedule is just terrible. Memphis used to open the season with Ole Miss and regularly play SEC schools. The games with Cincy and Louisville were fun back in the day. They held on with SMU, Tulane and playing the Academies, but who wants to see Charlotte?
But Memphis allowed its academics to suffer to the point it stood no chance of getting into a top conference. Hardgrave is trying to change that, but he can't raise standards too dramatically right away, because they need the money. I believe they are becoming more selective over time.

High costs and the changing landscape did it for me. But I also have much less tolerance for drunks and traffic these days. Plus, I give my money to teams that really need the help.

Tickets are so expensive now and it’s a grind to do the all day thing anymore. I’m going to one game this year with friends (AU vs UF) and that’s all for me in 2026. Just too easy to watch it on a 70” TV in the comfort of my own home.

It just plain cost too much. I had season tickets for years. Finally got rid of them after the “donation “ and parking passes went up. Figured I’d buy a big TV, a nice smoker and a fridge for my back porch. Best seat in the house.
