Fair point. Now which direction are the schools going in? Is Tennessee more likely to put up a string of top 5 finishes or is Georgia

I get where you're trying to go and in the last twenty years , georgia definitely has been trending in a better direction than Tennessee but at this point with NIL who even knows, texas tech is a great team now

Trying to go? In the last 5 years we have won two National Championships.

Do you believe in the last 5 years Tennessee is trending upward, or downward?

Texas Tech finished 7th in the country last year. Good, but not great.
Tennessee finished 9th in 2024 and unranked in 2025.

Do you think theyre worse now than during the Dooley, jones years? I mean they left themselves lots of room to trend upwards but they are.

Well, if you are talking about the last 24 seasons, then yes

UGA just caught and surpassed TN in this metric in 2021

Given that TN has had two top 10 finishes in the last 4 years I think we are trending up from where we had been.

All that is relative. If you had asked anyone in college football this question any year in history before 2010 the answer was easily TN. Now the answer is UGA. If Kirby Smart left and went to the NFL right now, my answer would be Tennessee. Sports are cyclical and there was a time when TN was the answer and now it’s UGA. Just enjoy the success yall are having now because it wont always be there. I know in the 90s I thought TN would always be a team at the top of the sport and within 15 years it fell apart. Dont take it for granted

How many top 5 finishes would Oklahoma have if they were always in the SEC?

That's one way of looking at it.

The last time Tennessee finished ranked in the top 5 was 2001. That was 24 seasons ago.

Well, there are over 120 teams that probably didn't get as close as we did, and over the past 25 years, since we won our last title, we've averaged 10 wins per season. That's fortunate. Better than nearly everyone else.

Texas of course always doing less with more

I realize you have an agenda but what nonsense are you babbling about now? Keep in mind Texas was not a program that bought players prior to NIL being an option and they haven’t always been the richest program (that was built up by Brown/Dodds in the early 2000s).

Which should tell you something about where the teams have been doing the past 30 years or so. I mean seriously. You hanging on to success your team had in the 1930s as proof you are trending in the right direction?

quote:

Given that TN has had two top 10 finishes in the last 4 years I think we are trending up from where we had been.

However when you check out their record in the other seasons you could also argue they are trending downward, couldn't you? Take a look at the records they have had under Huepel and tell me you feel good going forward. Huepel has been there for 5 years. I guess this year will tell us where your team is headed. Out of curiosity...what do you predict UT's record will be? (Honest question, I have no idea how y'all are looking)

quote:

Now the answer is UGA.

Then you should understand what I was saying when I told the other Vol poster that saying it is "only" a FG behind us downplays how far away 3 top 5 finishes actually is.

For the record, I went back to check and unless i missed some thing it looks like Georgia is only 2 top 5 finishes ahead of Tennessee. I find it to be 15-13. Looks like AI may have checked, or i missed one somewhere. Both are very good programs. All of the ranking teams is dumb, imo.

This is silly. They all did. Fans may not want to admit it, but all the major teams paid players.

Outright SEC title. That's the ticket. There's no other way in.

Georgia has finished the season in the top 5, Eight times since Tennessee last did.
____________________________________________________________

So by your "logic," Georgia will finish in the top 5 eight more times before Tennessee does once, then Georgia will finish in the top 5 eight more times before Tennessee does once, then Georgia will finish in the top 5 eight more times before Tennessee does once, then....Makes perfect sense. Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia, and always will be.
