Have some family that have lived in Vicksburg for a decade or so and I can’t say that I’ve ever had a bad time in my trips to Mississippi.

The rest of Mississippi only sucks if you're broke tbh. Then again everywhere sucks if you're broke lol.

OP has obviously never run trot lines on the Tombigbee or hunted squirrels near Holly Springs.

Mississippi Population isnt climbing fast, there's a reason why.
Let's explore that, shall we?
Mississippi had little to no growth in the 50s and 60s due to blacks migrating out for obvious reasons. In the 70s, the population grew by 13.7%. Dipped to 2.1% in the 80s and rose to 10.5% in the 90s. Slowed again in the 2000s to 4.3% and has slowed down to 0.6% this decade.

If you look at Alabama's demographics, you'll see similar trends (from 1970 onwards).

Louisiana doesn't look a lot different if you remember that Louisiana boomed during the 70s (thanks to oil) and then collapsed in the 80s when oil went bust.

Arkansas has some healthy growth in the 90s and 2000s (no doubt because of the boom in NW Arkansas) but also has fallen flat this decade:

Point being, I don't think Mississippi is some great outlier relative to neighboring states. I know we love to bash Mississippi. They don't have some of the advantages that Alabama and Louisiana have in terms of natural resources. They would definitely benefit from a more educated workforce. But so would their neighbors. Mississippi isn't vastly inferior to its neighbors. Inferior, sure. That much I can agree with.

I dunno. Hattiesburg ain't too bad. Southern Miss has a shite-load of super hot young ladies. Also, haven't seen a whole lot of sugar cane fields in Mississippi. Mostly pine trees for pulp wood. Overall, Mississippi still beats the shite out of anything in Tennessee. Only decent thing in Tennessee is Reelfoot Lake in Obion county. Memphis is a crime ridden shithole.

Jackson has a Whole Foods.
And it’s pretty much the only healthy place to eat in the state.

I miss the Jitney Jungle.
The north side of Jackson out towards Ridgeland and Madison is quite nice.
Not surprisingly, Madison County has the one of the highest median household incomes in Mississippi -- barely behind DeSoto County (suburban Memphis).

Great Deer Hunting state wide, equal to Alabama. Also plenty of Native American relics state wide. And there is Oxford which has more pretty LADIES per capita than both Alabama Schools combined.

In terms of natural resources..what do Louisiana and Alabama have that is absent in Mississippi? Just curious..

Louisiana has/had tons of oil & gas plus deepwater ports out the arse.
Birmingham was the Pittsburgh of the South. I can't speak as much to Alabama's natural resources but I'm guessing they have more than Mississippi.
FRED data seems to support my hunch:

Mississippi: LINK

South Mississippi produces more crude than Alabama, but less than Louisiana. Mississippi and Alabama are both top 10 in lumber production, more than Louisiana. Mississippi and Louisiana also benefit from the river, coastal plain and various wetlands more.

To be honest with you, I can't argue against your point. Baton Rouge used to be a decent place, but it's gone to hell - particularly in the area immediately off campus. Still, I'd prefer it to Oxford. But - understand I'm just giving you crap. I truly do love the state of Mississippi. There are good people throughout that wonderful state no matter who their team is.
