Wasn't Chris set to be Lane's DC at FAU before the whole show-cause couch situation? He got fired from FAU after a season because of the penalties stemming from his tenure under Freeze. He's the DL coach for the Browns after a stop with the 9ers, but it also wouldn't be crazy for someone to want to get out of Cleveland

Y’know, Lane does have a brother in the NFL who does have a knowledge of the program

I doubt saban, sarkisian and kiffin (twice) hired this guy bc of his name
He was 22 when he worked for Saban, a coach who hires "offensive analysts" out of professional courtesy every single season, and he was younger than the majority of the roster when working for Sark at the Falcons, which was an unmitigated disaster. It is very difficult to imagine he would've had either of these opportunities but for the fact he's a notable coach's kid.
I trust Lane, but we did just hire a dude who very likely would not have had much job security at USF this year without some significant improvement. He's still only 28, and his work at USF has been bad to say the least, albeit with some program issues, QB issues, and the general obstacles of COVID. Still, CWJ's offenses at USF have yet to average more than 23.2 points per game, have yet to average more than 6.6 yards per pass or 4 yards per rush, and have yet to crack the top 100 offensive ratings. There's not much reason to doubt Lane, but CWJ is preposterously unproven for a guy who's now an offensive coordinator in the most difficult division in the entire sport. It's also kinda hard not to see the sighs of relief USF fans have after us hiring him away as anything other than a bit of a red flag.
Of course, none of this matters if it works, but it's hard to view this hire as CWJ earning this promotion purely on merit. Like, I feel it is completely fair to ask, "What has CWJ proven?" It seems like CWJ has already skipped multiple steps along the proverbial cursus honorum traditionally necessary in order to rise to the ranks of coordinator in the SECW, while faltering at the last step before getting here to boot. There's a lot more money and a lot less margin for error involved at this level too.
I really do trust Lane, and I imagine he probably sees some of himself in CWJ as well as kids who immediately followed in their fathers' coaching footsteps, but it's also fine to be a bit skeptical of us hiring a dude USF would've probably fired in 2022 without some marked improvement. On its face, it is not a hire you would expect a program paying a coach top 10 money to make, nor was CWJ a name that was getting floated around seemingly anywhere while so many major programs were reshuffling their staffs. I'm not really sure how to spin this as something other than a risky hire by a coach who enjoys taking risks

I’ve been hearing CWJ for weeks, and at no point have I warmed up to the idea. Dude simply would not have a job but for his name/father, and he sure as shite didn’t do anything at USF worthy of promotion

Between this and the CWJ hire, our staff just got significantly worse ugh

If you couldn't tell, I'm pretty tired of getting blown out in Super Game 3s, and I'm pretty pissed that it only took Lemonis 2.3 seasons to go to Omaha twice as many times as Mike has taken us. We're paying top 5 money for top 15 results when we're lucky and don't flame out while hosting a Regional. 21 fricking seasons, all but 2014. Hard to count 2020 when we didn't even have a chance to show our arse in conference play

I don't see how the success of Louisiana State in baseball behind Mike Bianco wouldn't always come at our expense...
I like Mike and know he's responsible for the fact that we are a certified baseball program these days, but he makes way too fricking much to crumble like pissed on paper mache more or less all but one Super Game 3 in his career. We've been outscored something like 56-26 in Super Game 3s under Bianco, and we've only mustered 1 run in multiple of those games.
There's not a remote chance in hell we could get Tadlock, and realistically probably no chance at McConnell either. It's going to be Godwin or an up and comer. Prepare to be underwhelmed. As much as it sucks, State is a better job than Ole Miss and they offered multiple dudes the highest paid job in the sport, and they still got spurned multiple times until landing on Lemonis, who is already a more accomplished coach than Bianco for nearly half the cost

It’s fun that State hasn’t beaten us in a sport I follow since 2019

Our defense is fricking stout, and you can overcome shooting woes from time to time when that’s the case at least

The cemetery is a place of memory and reflection. I’m not for turning it into an attraction, but those on the other side up in arms over the dead finally receiving headstones paid for privately can likewise frick off

It’s more that it was clearly never about history and honoring heritage if you’re cancelling because the statue is getting moved to the cemetery. How is there any more appropriate place on campus?

If you’re cancelling your football tickets purely because a monument meant to honor the Confederate dead is being moved to the part of campus where there are actual Confederate dead, you can get fricked
