So exactly like Alabama basketball did to the rest of the SEC last year with Bediako.
You would think that after seeing that Bediako was ruled ineligible because he had signed a G league NBA contract that other SEC coaches would have concluded, based on an actual court ruling, that former pro players were not eligible to play.
The SEC just assumed that settled the issue. They didn’t think anyone would be stupid enough to try again. But they underestimated how stupid LSU is and how corrupt local courts in Louisiana are.

So you are saying it is okay for Bama to try but not LSU or any other school?

Pros returning to College. Seems pretty simple to understand why it is a terrible idea.......

I am not a huge fan of what is going on with all of this, but if this was just about any other coach (especially not an LSU coach) no one would care.
If this was Arkansas or Kentucky everyone would be saying " They need all the help they can get, let them have the NFL rejects." This is a Lane Kiffin / LSU thing
Nope, too much cope in your overview. Nate Oats got a rectal exam from ESPN and sports outlets for his shenanigans. And rightly so.

So Lane found a loophole and exploited it. He's not exactly the first to have found a loophole. Dan Lanning has a history of it with Oregon. Chip Kelly did the same both in college and the pros. Bill Belichick is probably the standard bearer.
What has gotten everyone's panties in a wad is that it is the Darth Vader of football. Like many have said, others are doing it and no one is bitching.
You dont even understand what a loophole means. This is why reasonable conversations cant be had on this board with LSU fans. Yall use the max of your limited brain power to troll and have nothing left after that.

If they never actually make the roster are they really a pro athlete?
If a team held an open tryout and you were staying in a dorm and were feeding you but you never make the team are you consider a pro athlete?
That is basically what we are talking about

Not quite. There are tons of European pros playing CBB. Whether they are regarded as pros equal to NBA players or not, they were paid to play PROFESSIONAL basketball.

And do you think Oats cares about what ESPN or some journalist says? He tried something and it did not work, but other than people bitching what was the blow back? If it worked and he wins the Natty he would be laughing to the bank.

If you think the 5-5 thing is just a "one off" you are being willfully naive.
I came to say the same thing.... Sure they say it only applies to this one class - but that is now, you can bet your arse there will be several legal filings in future years using this as precedent to challenge for more eligibility. Given these are all being filed in State courts, to judges with ties to the schools, it will just be a mess year after year. Then they will start challening the 5 part - why should colleges be able to set a cap on the number of years they can play?
What we could end up with is very fluid movement back and forth between the Colleges and NFL. It will be like a true minor league with players being sent up/down (although it may still be season by season due to NFL rules). This would NOT be a good thing for college football. How much does anyone pay attention to or care about minor leagues?

Bama did this exact thing last year in basketball.
The judge who issued the TRO recused himself from the case because of questions about impartiality. I am sure the honorable Jerdan, East Baton Rouge judge and graduate of Baton Rouge’s Southern University who just happens to be up for reelection in November, is completely unbiased and impartial.

Charles Bediako has ended his fight for eligibility. After exhausting all routes in state court that would have made him eligible to play for Alabama basketball again this season, Bediako dropped his lawsuit against the NCAA in Tuscaloosa Circuit Court on Monday.
Bediako’s attorney David Holt filed for dismissal on Monday, according to court documents obtained by AL.com.
The center initially left Alabama after playing two seasons for Nate Oats and the Tide ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft. He went unselected, but signed a two-way deal and spent the past three seasons playing in the G-League.
In January, following a run of former professional players entering college basketball, Bediako decided to try and return. He sued the NCAA in Tuscaloosa, seeking temporary and permanent injunctions against the organization preventing him from playing.
Bediako did successfully get on the court for five games. Judge James Roberts issued a temporary restraining order that allowed the center to play until the court could hear his case.
However, between the TRO’s issuance and the hearing, the case changed judges after Roberts’ status as a UA athletics donor caused controversy. Roberts recused himself and judge Daniel Pruet took over the case.
After the hearing, Pruet ruled against Bediako’s request for a temporary injunction, noting that he felt any damages the center might suffer through not playing could be remedied through other measures later in the process. The TRO ended, and Bediako did not play again for Alabama.

Played in a NFL game, preseason or regular season, it is still an NFL game.
Says you, for the sake of the argument you want to make.
NFL preseason games are officially considered “exhibition games”, used for PRACTICE and PLAYER EVALUATION. They are a part of training camp, and nothing more.

If you read my post above it is clear Bediako is who filed the lawsuit to regain his eligibility, not Alabama or Nate Oats
Based on the LSU logic that is expounded here - that LSU has nothing to do with these NFL players filing suit - then Alabama had nothing to do with the Bediako situation.

3. It's not a Pandora's Box thing. This isn't going to open the floodgates for people like Peyton Manning to come back for a 5th year. This is confined to a single set of players - those who graduated high school in 2022.
No we cannot agree. We have kept the pros out of the SEC for decades and decades and dont care to make exceptions now. If anything we need to stay firm in our convictions, and not relent to idealistic opinion. All it takes is one time for precedent to show change is active.

So they are NFL exhibition games that players are paid to play in. They are NFL games. You yourself just said so.

LSU is not filing the lawsuits, the players are.
So you are saying Bediako, filed the lawsuit and enrolled at Bama without ever discussing this with Oats? Then played 5 games and was then ruled ineligible, and there was not fine or vacating of wins and Bama just continued their season. Why would it not be the same here?

It's a simple fix. Once a player decides to go to the NFL camp he loses his college eligibility.
I agree. But you realize these players didn't "decide" to go to an NFL camp, right? This wasn't elective.

Bediako was under contract with the SAN ANTONIO SPURS and played MULTIPLE seasons in the NBA G-League.
The mental gymnastics it takes to think that that is some how not as bad as a football player less than a year removed from college, going through 1 NFL training camp and being cut before the season, returning to college is impressive.
