Are you under the impression a bunch of people are going to rush in here claiming fulmer and Pruitt were good hires?

Seems to coincide with uga’s 2002 rise. Perhaps this means the ceiling has been lowered for the vols.

Just like they think that me stating that Tennessee's ceiling is more than 10 wins is equal to me saying that Tennessee has been a 10 win program recently. Like I know we've sucked. 9 wins isn't anything to be ecstatic about, especially in the situation we were in.

Been there. Painful spot to be in. Hate to see your team lose, but have to happen to nail the coffin shut.
I've only ever rooted against the Hogs one time in 55 years. The WKU game that finally put Chaggy out of our misery. A QB he ran off came in and dropped his own Club Dub right on his head.

And Florida's, and LSU's, and Auburn's, and Alabama's. We got complacent while everyone else leveled up from 2005 onward. Tennessee won a natty in the modern era. That's our ceiling. Just because we've underperformed doesn't change that. And 2015 and 2016 were two of the most underperforming teams in this long period of shite that we've had, and that's mostly to do with the idiot in charge at the time.

Florida and auburn and lsu have also underperformed during this time period, so let’s just limit this to uga and bama.

Interesting claim because some might not consider 1998 modern.

They seem to think that not being good in the recent past means that you can never be good again. If that were true, which it isn’t, then what would even be the point of watching college football, or any sport at all?
Someone said above that Tennessee’s descent into mediocrity coincides with UGA’s ascent in 2002. That may be true, but UGA had been pretty mediocre for 15 or so years before that. How did UGA do that, if they had been mediocre for fifteen years, that should’ve meant we’d be mediocre forever. What about Florida, who ascended after being mediocre up until the late 80s and early 90s? Or LSU until the early 2000s? Or Auburn until the early or mid eighties, and then again until the mid-2000s?
You never know what’s going to happen in college football. I don’t understand saying that Tennessee can’t be good in the future because they haven’t been good for 20 years.

They have, but they’ve also all won national championships during this time period. UGA also has, at different points, underperformed during this time period, and just won a national championship. Tennessee has almost exclusively underperformed during this time period.
Sometimes you underperform and sometimes you win. It’s about having the right coach or the right players or both at the right time. Tennessee hasn’t had that for twenty years, but it doesn’t mean they can’t in the future.
Tennessee is a dormant program, not a dead program.

Yep, and a Beast @ uga and a beast @ bama is certainly not the right time.

Are we talking about ten wins being the ceiling for Tennessee in the short term (next two years), or ten wins being an absolute ceiling for their program in the medium/long-term? It seemed like we were talking about the latter.

Does it matter? No, it’s okay to laugh at the vols. Learn to laugh at them.

Don’t forget to add Jalen Hurd to the bunc. He is an NFL caliber player if healthy. Only reason 49ers let him walk was because of his health.

Should have been 11 win season Dobbs junior year. That 2015 team was as good as anyone in the country. Had double digit leads in the 4th quarter in 3 of those losses while had the lead in the 4th quarter in all them. Lost 4 games by a combined 17 points to Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas and Bama. With a decent coach UT wins at least 3 of those 4 games.
