Any Louisiana state system is corrupt. If you don’t play ball and bend the rules you won’t make it there. It’s one of the worst educated states in the country. Trying to hold LSU players to an academic standard will work wonders for him. He will soon realize the stark contrast of academic expectations at ND and LSU.

Yet scuttlebutt is that A&M had up to 15 or so players academically ineligible for the bowl game and the COVID-19 story was a feint. The Feint was to ensure that A&M got its bowl money or did not face a penalty from the SEC for cutting the league out of the Gator Bowl Revenue that it would have received.

No. I’m just saying that a man like Kelly knows nothing about the South and our people. I’m sorry but I’ll be surprised if he lasts very long at LSU.
He will move on before he is shown the door. That was really cute when he faked that Southern accent. Nothing like a guy with a Boston accent insulting the entire South. His contempt will become even more obvious as time goes on

Reality is he just goes with the Boston Accent, he can drive down the New Orleans and talk to some of the older guys and think he is New York City. That is folks like my cousins who grew up in Gentilly, my Aunts (all deceased now) who lived in Mid-City, etc.

2 Miles from LSU, there are 4 large Catholic Parishes, Christ the King on Campus, Saint Agnes Downton, Saint Jude down Highland Road, and Saint Aloysius in South Downs just off Stanford heading into LSU.

Kelly grew up Irish-Catholic, I don't know what he does in terms of attending Sunday Liturgy (not my business), he is paid to Coach, but heck I am sure he can show up for Christmas and Easter at least.

He will fit in just fine in South Louisiana.

All that remains from the Orgeron era is offensive line coach Brad Davis and he hasn't even been at LSU a full year.
But BK hired his OL Coach at ND (Jeff Quinn) to be an analyst, so it would not surprise me to see Quinn get a "Co-OL Coach" designation during or after Spring practice......

I do admire the effort to spin this fact but maybe players and coaches are leaving because he’s a huge douche?

Exactly the opposite. They're leaving because BK is the exact polar opposite of "Shrimpy" and is weeding out all the lazy bums.

Nice try though Danny Boy. (The Colonel is apparently personality #11 of 16 total)

All these posts about Southern culture in our area really, really do not understand the culture of South Louisiana. The Southern culture is traditionally WASP. We are Canadian-Catholic French decent. Our heritage is French Catholic exiles of WASP culture. Kelly coming from Irish-Catholic Boston is a better cultural fit in LA than Saban coming from WASP West Virginia. Seriously, this is the Acadian region of LA. You people speak of things you do not understand…

It’s probably a good thing. But creating a culture of responsibility and accountability will be a whole different thing in Baton Rouge than it was at a prestigious small Catholic school. But it’s going to be a widespread problem. Charlie Strong was unable to do it at Texas. I’n today’s collegiate game with NIL money and easy transfer portals, good luck getting a spoiled arse 18/19 year old kid to embrace a culture that might actually require discipline, accountability and self restraint.

This post is the right answer. The people in this thread don't know what they're talking about.

The office staff was probably from up north, and Kelly had trouble understanding them speak since he's so southern.

Who was the last head coach that replaced his entire coaching staff (save 1), analysts, and recruiting staff?

QUITTERS, ALL OF THEM!
We only want players who want to be here and fight like a true Tiger! And Brian Kelly is doing what he thinks has to be done in order to field the best team he possibly can. Isn't that why he's getting the big bucks?

Please explain in detail what this has to do with anything.

This is easily the most overblow, laziest criticism of a coach. Ed O was literally one of us, and you see how that turned out. Les was from the great white north, and did extremely well until the game passed him by. So I anxiously await your rationale.

I don't think the fact he is Irish Catholic from Boston is that much of a factor. I think the bigger issue is he grew up a rich kid from a political family and is an elitist. He can't relate well with most athletes outside of white kids from the private schools. It's why he has always let his assistants do most of the recruiting. That's going to be interesting to see how it plays out because guys like Saban and Jimbo get VERY personally involved with recruiting. I remember it cost A&M some guys when we had Sumlin as he simply got outhustled by Saban and others who spent the time to get personal relationships with recruits while Sumlin really didn't.

The reality is if he wins none of it matters. It will all be lost in the wash. The only way it matters is if he struggles and this does take 3 years to rebuild. People will get very impatient and the fact he is such a square peg will make things much harder for him.

The cultural issue I think he will have is moreso centered around his style of coaching. He's not personable and likeable. How many former players talk about how wonderful he was or how much he meant to them? At a place like LSU that thrives on passion and emotion that could be a problem. Notre Dame was a perfect fit for Kelly culturally as it is much more stodgy and elitist. I don't know that Kelly is going to relate well to poor black kids from Louisiana.

I guess we will find out.
