He could win the CWS and have a lot more leverage.

I think Woodward does make an offer around 2 million...will it be enough? Who knows what they do in the CWS..
If they win the CWS then that's automatically off the table. Do I think he comes to LSU? Probably not, but it's an interesting scenario nonetheless and it lines up with the timeline of this search right now.

I don’t think Bianco/Godwin are necessarily smokescreens per se, I think making the interest in them public accomplishes a couple things:
-sincere interest and due diligence, as there is a good chance they may end up getting the job if top target(s) fall through
-leverage in the negotiation with top target(s)
-keep media pressure off top target(s) that are still playing
-in the event Bianco/Godwin don’t get the job, LSU’s interest in them helped them at their current schools
It’s kind of a win-win for everybody regardless how it all plays out

But that's why neither is a "smokescreen". There are very much legit serious candidates.
Whereas a candidate like Vitello, Corbin or whoever they are targeting in Omaha (O'Connor?) has to keep things much more buttoned up and avoid any leaks at all costs. For one, they are trying to win the CWS. And those overtures by Woody may fail -- thus the fallback options. You can't always land the big fish but I'm sure he will do as he's done before and put everything he's got into it.
