If Arkansas wants to buy him out and he wants to leave, deuces. I don't think Auburn should offer him more money no matter what happens this year.

I’d take a run at Mike Norvell,Mike Leach,Joe Brady,Lane Kiffin,Matt Rhule or PJ Fleck. Bill Clark would in the 20’s of most Auburn fans minds as a replacement.

Gus isn't the best. He frustrates the fanbase endlessly with his stubborn playcalling. A lot of people think we could do better than Gus and we can.

My fear is that we can do a lot worse than Gus and the number of coaches we could hire that would be worse is much higher than the number of coaches that would be better.

Lots of schools have hired sure fire coaches recently that haven't panned out (Morris, Taggart, Herman, Harbaugh, Jimbo). Hiring a new coach is never a guarantee.

I’m bi-polar about Gus. I thought at the time we did all we could do by giving him an extension to keep him, there was just not any real exciting coaches to be had that year. Last year we certainly underachieved. Gus told us all he was taking over the play calling and we all expected to see an offense that was fast and exciting. I wouldn’t be glad to see him go, I still think in the grand scheme of things he can mature into a really good coach. I also wouldn’t cry if he left, I think Auburn could certainly hire one of the up and comers and wouldn’t be any worse off. I am firmly in the Bill Clark camp. All he has ever done is win and the job he has done at UAB with the challenges he has had is remarkable. There are probably 6 or 8 coaches out there I would be fine with though. If I had the only vote, I would certainly not fire him this year, I also wouldn’t give him anything above what he already has to keep him.

I may be wrong, but Gus would be a terrible hire for Arkansas.
Even if he'd bring along Kevin Steele, Arkansas just isn't going to get the types of recruits Auburn gets.
Further, the only thing that's kept Auburn winning the last few seasons has been the defense.
There are no Davidsons or Browns coming to play for the razorbacks

I wholeheartedly agree with this. There is no way Gus could take the gameplan he runs at Auburn and make it work in Arkansas. He will never get the players over there. Would they be better? yes but not a contender.

He's had the time, recruits, support and his time has come for departure.
You don't keep investing in a no return venture.

I would because IF we pay him for 8-4 to stay, we are suckers.

He’s a good coach, but he is not earning the seventh highest salary in college football.

At Auburn, this board could go 6-6 most years.

This board could hire a coach to go 8-5.

My first call is probably Matt Campbell.

I like Gus as our coach. If he were to leave I would like to see Chip Kelly as our new coach Or possibly Kevin Steele taking over as HC.

All Gus had ever done was win as well.

We absolutely do not need another high school coach. Period.

Unless Auburn is willing to pay F888 You money, you can forget about Campbell, Rhule and Fleck. Brady is your best bet, and Mario Cristobal is only making $2.5 million per year. Norvell is rumored to have some skeletons in his closet which would explain things. Leach and Kiffin? LOL.

That was at Baylor. 1990s Baylor is like trying to win at Vanderbilt. A good oc can help him out.

If UGA and LSU were justified in finally being fed up with Richt and Miles, then Auburn fans have every right to be done with Gus. Anyone who says otherwise is just being obtuse.

Do I necessarily want to have him leave only to go play him every year and have him negatively recruiting us? No, but it is what it is.

I dont care who or when it was. Fact is he has been a massive failure as a head coach. That isnt what we need to line up head to head with the Sabans and Jimbos of the conference unless we want to find ourselves fighting Mississippi State for 4th in the West.
