Unless Auburn is willing to pay F888 You money, you can forget about Campbell, Rhule and Fleck. Brady is your best bet, and Mario Cristobal is only making $2.5 million per year. Norvell is rumored to have some skeletons in his closet which would explain things. Leach and Kiffin? LOL.
I’m pretty sure 7 million a year is close to FU money. Cristobal would also be an interesting choice. If you would’ve read the whole post it was naming those candidates ahead of Bill Clark.

Rodney Garner as HC on cheap and pay reputable OC/DC is a viable business model. Look at LSU, CLemson, and Oregon as proof. Garner's recruiting is legendary.

For the record I would be happy as a possum eating persimmons if Gus decided to pick up and go home to Arkansas

If we were going to go with an internal unknown hire, I and most of the Auburn fan base (I assume) would rather risk it with TWill and hope he turns into our Debo.

Ed O wasn't lighting it up at Ole Miss, either.

Ed O is the poster child for hire the right coordinators, and you can do well. Dude has absolutely learned what type of head coach he needs to be, and has made two fantastic hires in Aranda and Brady.
Gus has made one good coordinator hire in his tenure, Steele, and that is the only reason we've been competitive this year or last year.

You’re right, we need a successful D1 coach. Using that criteria, I like Bill Clark. You can like or dislike anybody you want.

Christobal is going to get an interview at FSU.

Auburn fans might be, but Arkansas fans wouldn't be. After not quite 2 years of watching Morris run terrible offenses and coach QBs to regress, why bring Gus here to do the same...for more money?
If we hire Gus then I pack up my fan card and find a new team.

Lies
They would party in the streets. They all cried with grief when Gus spurned them in 2017.

We should be undefeated this year. Him wasting this team is pretty bad

If Gus left, reality would hit Auburn when at best they hire Houston Nutt or Les Miles when no one else wants the job after the way they treated Gus.
The inmates definitely run the Auburn asylum.

We would be doing cartwheels

Would any SEC school try for Les Miles. They know he can recruit the south. Would Arkansas, Auburn, South Carolina or Vandy try to make a run at les?

I was listening to ESPN Baton Rouge today and they brought up a good point about Arkansas’ program in the past decade...
They went from Bobby Petrino to Bret Bielema to Chad Morris. Very hard for them to find success with three coaches with different philosophies on football. Bielema recruited to suit the more antiquated style of smash-mouth football that dominated the SEC for the greater part of the 21st century. Chad Morris came from SMU with a hybrid spread philosophy. Tough to win when you don’t have the time to recruit the players that you want to fit your scheme.

I am of the opinion that we could hire just about anyone to consistently go 8-4. The worries about look at arkie or UTk IMO are null and void. The recruiting landscape has changed considerably over the last 20 years and that doesn't get near the discussion as to why those programs struggle now.
Auburn will always be located near ATL and with good connections in Florida. If we can take 3 or 4 of the top Alabama kids every year we will always be good enough to go 8-4. I refuse to believe that what we've seen on offense the last few years over multiple players can be blamed on anyone other than Gus.

I’ll be a realistic auburn fan here.
Our wr’s aren’t great and were good recruits
Our oline isn’t great and were good recruits
Our Rb isn’t great
Our Qb is bad and is Malzahn’s fault.
I don’t want to fire Malzahn he’s a good coach, he’s somewhere between a good and very good coach but not great. He’s narcissistic in his play calling and won’t let anyone else call plays.
Given that, Saban is across the state and the best coach in history. I’m realistic and Auburn is not a top 5 program and prob not top 10. We don’t have easy recruiting like UF, USC, UT, UGA, Bama, etc. we have to hustle and work.
I don’t want to give Gus a raise and I still think we win 1of 2 and maybe both from Bama and UGA and I’m content with that and 9-3 hopefully 10-3 season. If someone wants to buy Gus I’ll be fine letting him walk. He’s a good guy and I think his current contract is more than fair, if someone thinks he deserves more we need to let him go and move on though.

I like Gus as a guy, have been critical of him as a play caller at times, but as a human being he's A++. Aside from the $49M, we've treated Gus like shite in a lot of ways and I wouldn't be surprised if he told us to go shite in our hat and bolted for Arkansas. We get what we deserve.
