I work for a firm that concentrates on university work, and have been to every SEC campus except Oklahoma. By far, the ugliest collection of campus buildings can be found in Fayetteville.

It’s as if there are no campus standards at all. The Master Plan is fine, but the designs...

For those of us that haven't been there, describe it: modernist? Brutalist?

Here are a few architectural gems from the campus.

Since of lot of AU's campus was expanded in the 70's, the result is ugly 70's Soviet-style commie blocks. If you built in that time period, these soul-sucking edifices are what you got. AU is tearing that stuff down as fast as they can, thankfully.

If you want to see a concentration of southern architecture go to Eufala Al , Washington Ga, or Thimasville Ga.

Probably. Every hall, every corner, every elevator, every window looked exactly the same on every floor. Then they added to the fun by having four identical quadrants.

Back in the day, porches were a place where social activities took place. Before there was AC some people visited with guests on the porch, hoping to catch a breeze. Lemonade or tea were commonly served.

The Haley Center is a nice example of 1960s Soviet-Bloc architecture

I dreaded classes in that shithole. Going to be a tough demolition.

Underrated downtown. Just spent a week there for a fishing tourney.

MSU's Riley Center Grand Opera House in downtown Meridian. Built in 1889 and fully restored in the 2000s
