How many times has Saban hired him ? Maybe Saban was just doing charity work.

He hired him twice. And demoted him once.

Auburn keeps throwing what money they do have down the hole--and, then expect their followers to ante up to pay for it.

AU is definitely THE klutz University of the country.

Crazy land. Doubt the football pay model will last much longer

No. The issue is this model will last for about 15-18 programs only. Auburn will be paying their Defensive Coordinator a higher salary than more than 70 Head Coaches currently make.... on top of paying their head coach $6.8 million/year which is the 6th most of any Head Coach.

The gap between 15-18 programs (Bama, LSU, UGA, AU, UF, A&M, TEX, OK, ND, OSU, MICH, PSU, CLEM, FSU, USC, OR) and everyone else is growing larger by the day.

At some point College Football is going to have to come to realization that a split is necessary. The Power programs should not be in the same division as so many of these mid-major schools.

1) Look at what Saban had him doing when he last left Saban...LB coach .
2) I see you're still the sensitive little titty-baby about anything Alabama.
3) I didn't reply to who was worth that type of money. I said that Steele isn't worth that type on money. Hell, that's a little more than Venables makes and Aranda was making before he left LSU!

1.He was the director of player personnel and then he made him an on the field coach (LB). I didn't know that LBs were not important in Saban's Defensive schemes.
The fact the Kirby coached DBs most of his career at Bama and some of the issues during loses were the Pass D, I am amazed Kirby kept his title so long.
2. Not sensitive, just observant. Bama fans think they never get beaten by another team and that the other teams success is due to Bama lack of emphasis in a certain area.
3. Again, you have no idea what the worth of a coach or a program is to a schools overall exposure and marketing. Just another example of being small minded.

He’s a solid DC. But highest paid is crazy. But maybe it shouldn’t be surprising considering what they’re paying Malzahn for his results.

Don't forget Chizik.

Auburn contract negotiators are stupid. This team has lost at least 4 games SIX years in a row and pay their staff like they’ve won national championships.

It’s amazing. Other than the 2013 season Gus has had seasons on par with what HDN had at Arkansas

LB coaches aren't even close to being as important as a DC, and do you have any idea how UNLELATED to coaching the director of player personnel is?
The fact the Kirby coached DBs most of his career at Bama and some of the issues during loses were the Pass D, I am amazed Kirby kept his title so long.Saban actually worked with the DBs, genius, and Kirby NEVER made 2.5 mil. a year, even with a handful of NATTIES under his belt!

You're famous on this board for being so jealous and sensitive about Alabama. Hell, even your barn buds laugh about it!

Really? So I don't realize what Saban and Alabama football has done for the school's prominence, not to mention its enormous influence on the nearly doubling of enrollment in the last ten years, huh? Hell, I'm more aware than you because I'm a part of it!

Pal, you should see someone about that problem you've got with The University of Alabama, because they ain't going away, and neither are their fans.

All I'm telling you is that y'all could have gotten as good or better a DC for a lot LESS money, but it's obvious that the Auburn administration doesn't have a flair for negotiations. Just look at Chezic and Gus.

I'm glad to know that if we are forced to hit the market we can find coaches on the cheap who can still beat Alabama

But then hires him again later tells me Saban thinks he knows a little football.
