Auburn contract negotiators are stupid. This team has lost at least 4 games SIX years in a row and pay their staff like they’ve won national championships.

Agreed. That's a lot of money for mediocre results.

I was thinking the same.
Auburn definitely isn't getting much bang for the buck on a per win basis.

Steele ain't worth anywhere near that kind of $$$$$.

He’s worth whatever ppl are willing to pay him, so it would appear he is.

Who do you say is worth it? Steele D is the main reason AU had any success the last three years. So how does that success translates to money. Auburn’s name was talked about and that equals exposure. Compare that exposure with SC, UK or even A&M. Too many people are small minded when it comes to Athletics being the best marketing tool a school has. That is why Bruce Pearl is grossly underpaid.

Not like they had a choice. He probably could have gone anywhere at this point.

Best head coach currently associated with the program.

Worth every penny.

Not because of the defense.

Yeah he is. That defense is what has kept that team afloat the last couple of years. If anything, Gus should be footing part of that from his salary.

I agree with what you said about Gus...either that or giving it back to the school.
When is the last time Auburn went over a couple of years without having a good defense? The fact that Alabama is recruiting more now on a national level has given y'all a much better shot at the in-state talent. There are a # of better DCs out there than Steele. Between 2008-2016 he changed jobs 5 times with no actual job advancement. Alabama had him doing everything but their laundry, and obviously weren't overly impressed.

Actually you can put a price on it. How much does LSU, Clemson and Alabama pay their coordinators?

Our average ranking on defense from 2009-2015 was 63rd.

The guy at Oklahoma for one, and Bob Shoop and Brown at Michigan are a couple of others who are excellent and could be gotten for less money.

Didn't answer my question of who would be worth that type money. Typical Bama fan trying to take credit for AUs success. The fact that most of AU stud players on Defense are from out of state. Davidson is the exception and he was a legacy player that Bama wanted badly. How many times has Saban hired him ? Maybe Saban was just doing charity work.

And they are going to work for a lame duck head coach who can't generate enough offense to give the defense a rest?
Sorry you don't agree, but Steele was the best football hire at Auburn the last decade and he's worth whatever we pay him. It's especially worth it to Gus since Steele has probably saved his job.

When we hired him people thought we were ridiculously overpaying Nick Saban.

Not so much anymore

1) Look at what Saban had him doing when he last left Saban...LB coach .
2) I see you're still the sensitive little titty-baby about anything Alabama.
3) I didn't reply to who was worth that type of money. I said that Steele isn't worth that type on money. Hell, that's a little more than Venables makes and Aranda was making before he left LSU!

All I'm telling you is that y'all could have gotten as good or better a DC for a lot LESS money, but it's obvious that the Auburn administration doesn't have a flair for negotiations. Just look at Chezic and Gus.

That he inherited from Muschamp.

He’s a solid DC. But highest paid is crazy. But maybe it shouldn’t be surprising considering what they’re paying Malzahn for his results.
