I keep hearing this. AU finished 8th in the SEC in scoring defense this year - 7th in total.

That is average.

All of them. Sumrall dropped out because he was told he would not have complete control of hiring his coaching staff.

Go watch Freeze’s interview with David Pollack this week.

Pollack asked him DIRECTLY.

Freeze said clearly (multiple times) that no boosters and no administration ever interfered with his decisions as the head coach. All of them were always supportive to the end.

The guy (who just got fired mid season) said all of that is just rumors and he has no idea where any of it comes from.

If we'd had even a decent offense, that would be a fair point. But when your offense is always 3 and out and can only manage 3 points against teams like Kentucky, the fact that our defense was statistically average means they were actually a really good defense. In most games, our defense was gassed by the 4th quarter.

And your source is Freeze? The guy being paid off by Auburn? Wonder what would happen if he started bad-mouthing the university?

I’m sure Golesh said “Wow - I’ve got a built in DC who just got passed over by me for the HC position. I’m all in.”

Uh Hars is getting paid by us too

Auburn has coaches we fire elect to live in Auburn. You can hate us all you want, it’s a likable community to be part of. I think Hugh was treated well and it’s pretty obvious he knows that’s the reality.

Harsin is the only one with genuinely bad blood.

any semblance of a decent scheme will be an improvement.

But the thing you have to worry about is there are already offenses these players have seen that are known commodities they can go be a part of right now rather than taking a chance at something that might not materialize.

Hugh Freeze has 15,800,000 reasons to be very diplomatic when it comes to discussing Auburn.

It’ll be alright. The college calendar right now is stupid and doesn’t give a new coach or recruits much time to get to know each other before early signing day.

Golesh has been a Recruiting Coordinator before and has pulled big classes everywhere he’s been.

If we lose any offensive recruits, it’s cool. I’d rather Golesh bring in players that fit his offense, rather than sign guys that are never going to see the field. The QB who de-committed comes to mind.

Hell, they even let him play a couple rounds of golf every day instead of coaching. They were very supportive!!

This is the textbook way to wind up with a divided team from the top down

I do worry about this. Golesh is apparently a hard arse. After Freeze’s Hillsong version of football, I’m sure some players are going to be disgruntled.

Then again, didn’t Durkin kill a kid with his tough workouts?

This is the reason Nick Saban retired. He couldn't COACH them anymore due to being overpaid prima donnas.

And it made me just think of something. Take Golesh at USF and his success. Now think of the caliber of player he could recruit to USF. Probably not the same caliber that he can at a major university, like Auburn. But the players he could recruit and coach are very happy to just be playing football. The players that schools like Alabama, Auburn, LSU recruit all know they are top notch players and therefore don't feel as fortunate as the players at a USF or Tulane. They feel the coach is lucky to have them and he will do whatever they ask him to do to keep them.

My how college football has screwed itself.

To one degree or another, we all just kind of watched it happen.

I think the whole thing is going to need to crash and burn before it can be rebuilt.

It's going to have to make some drastic changes that players and coaches alike are not going to like. But the road it's on now is not sustainable.

Well the program has been in constant disarray since around 2006(few high spots and one Cam Newton in there) through 5 different head coaches so you’d almost hope there’s some type of booster/admin issue because that’s at least fixable.

The alternative is that this is normal and will continue

Are you just finding out that Auburn only cares about one game a year? The iron bowl. That’s it
