Arkansas can and should be a program that competes in every game. I don't know that they will ever be elite or a giant but they are more than capable of having elite seasons every now and then and good seasons regularly. That said, they have a long way to go and stiffer competition than they've faced in the past.

In 2011 they were 11-2 and finished fifth in the country.

Their only losses were to Alabama and LSU, who played each other in the BCS National Championship that season.

How?

With a low population State and very mediocre HS FB?

It's not like CFB players that have other options are beating a path to spend the best 4 years of their young lives in friggin' Ar-Kansas

Any team whose defensive roster consists of 80% Texas HS football players will not win anything significant anytime soon. This is especially true if their D line and LBs consist of 80% or more Texas HS players. Texas high school ball. Five years ago Texas HS ball handicapped their O line recruits. Now that college offenses have evolved, the Online is not he biggest issue. The lack of D lineman and LBs who can play the run, especially power between the tackles , is the biggest problem for Texas colleges. Their interior Dline and LBs are not prepared for the physicality of the college game as a result of how High School ball is played their.

We do turn out a ton of basketball talent for our size. The problem is keeping them at home. I believe we recently had a top 5 women's player... who left the state.

With football Arkansas goes as Little Rock goes. And Little Rock has sucked in football for some time. Eventually the Ozarkopolis of NW Arkansas will make up for that but we have to have out of state recruits right now.

I don't have the numbers off hand for defense, but less than 30% of our roster last year was from Texas.

Edit: if you're referring to Aggy, then NM.

Arkansas like Mizzou are upper middle class fish. The problem for Arkansas even more than Mizzou and South Carolina is that even on years they will be good, Arkansas will struggle to finish in the top 3 in the West. They haven’t even defeated A&M yet!

I can't speak for historically because I don't know, it just seems Texas A&M has more resources than Arkansas. Arkansas though should be in a bowl game every single year with what they do have imo.

No doubt. But there are a lot of nice places to live in Arkansas. Not just NW Arkansas.

We just need the right coach and staff. Hopefully, we're headed in the right direction with Pittman.

Any of the current SEC programs could have Arkansas success in the SWC except maybe Vandy. Basically they battled A&M to be #2 behind Texas. Rest of the conference was awful

Michael Corleone, why can’t Texas HS football coaches teach proper defensive football to their players? I just don’t understand that it is absurd. I’m not saying you’re wrong buddy I just can’t believe the coaching incompetence of TX high school football coaches. Why aren’t the parents of their kids playing TX HS football raising utter hell over this issue?

Yeah the thing that sucks is in 2011 we went 11-2...finished 3rd in the West.

2015 we finished 8-5...3rd in the West

Seems most of our better teams have coincided with other teams in the division having one of their best teams ever. 2010 IMO is our best team since joining the SEC and it happened to be the one year Cam Newton was at Auburn. Then the next year we were really good and Alabama and LSU are both unbeatable.

They’re averaging last than 5 wins a year since the last expansion. Maybe the focus should be on making a bowl yearly before we talk sleeping giant.

The way someone your age interprets NW Arky is totally different than an 18 year old elite Recruit that can play at any College he wants to:

USC

Florida

UGA

Bama

Texas

Miami despite their avg facilities

Michigan

OU

Ohio St

Notre Dame

Washington

This is actually very interesting.

I assume that correlates with how the Big 12 is currently seen as all offense and no defense?
