Well no one is quite sure what caused it right now. It could be he was a bit too loyal to his head coach. It could be that he really screwed up on estimating how much the stadium expansion will cost. Some of the powers that be in the state were not at all sure about the need and cost to add onto the stadium.

Arkansas is extremely conservative (whether the Democrats or Republicans are in power) when it comes to fiscal matters.

Does the state help pay for stadium expansion? I'm pretty sure ours is all done via donation but I know each school does things differently. We're doing a huge upgrade now. Currie got his money for the next phase for Neyland just before CBJ was officially fired and you can bet your arse that firing Jones and input on the next coach (aka hire someone fricking big this time) were a part of the demands boosters had before parting with the kind of cash needed.

If you're doing a stadium expansion or renovation I can see that definitely being a part of things even if the state helps pay. Boosters don't want to give money when they hate the coach.

Makes sense. I swear that had a bigger role in firing Fulmer than anything else.

Everyone has their little reasons. Some because of the 2006 deal with Gus. Some believed he really underachieved with that amazing backfield. Little things added up with the fatigue.

IIRC, Chaney was the silver medalist for OC when Kirby couldn't get Enos, so I'm not guaranteed they're a package deal.

Oh the University has the cash, Long has squirreled away money like you wouldn't believe.

The thing is Arkansas is a small state. Those big money boosters for the sports department are also the big money donators for everyone on the political food chain. So if they feel that their money is being thrown away they have some very powerful ears to bend. With Long having already annoyed them with several of his decisions that cut their access back by quite a bit they might have decided they'd had enough.

I just realized I copied and pasted from an email at work instead of what you posted. But yes, I was replying to you but no it had nothing to do with toys.

I better watch that- there's no telling what I could paste on here.

If I'm connecting the dots properly in all this there is some much bigger bullshite going on behind the scenes than just having a shitty football program.

I can see how that could be problematic - nowhere to run when you piss someone off.

At the same time, I think with boosters you get headaches either way. Trying to get our boosters to agree on anything is like trying to herd cats. The most amazing bit of info to come out of our coaching search thus far is that for once all of our boosters are on the same page. In fact, agreement among boosters is so rare that there's a theory that it only came about via a power play years in the making (and of course there's a competing theory to that one as well ).
