Newman ensuring the rest of the country doesn't see what South Louisiana saw last year.
They turned down nationally televised ESPN games for the fall and are only playing in-state schools for Arch's senior year.

Not really relevant. But there’s been a few. Usually always instate kids. Kiyuanta Goodwin especially comes to mind. He dropped in the rankings after he committed.

It’s always seemed relevant to me to see who is recruiting a kid.
If you have top programs all vying for a 3 star, maybe it’s an indicator that guy is under ranked. Similarly, if there is a 5 star not getting much attention from the top schools he could be overrated.

If he were really the top recruit, he would be committed to another school.

Arch Manning Throw Breakdown
Video breakdown of Arch at Clemsons Camp June '21
Performance Lab of California
Quarterback University
Shouldn't be any surpise he has excellent mechanics given he has been groomed to be a QB since birth.
Good foot work, pump fake, ball flip, quick release, tight spiral > 5*

You must recruit for a living. Probably not though.

The kid has been so hyped up. It will be hard for him to live up to the expectations. I hope people give him time to develop in college. I will be pulling for him.

this isn't a real thing. A highly rated kid is going to get recruited heavily from the top schools on rating alone.
ETA the star system is a scam. I saw it first hand. There was a local kid, in the last decade, that signed with bama. He was the #9 rated player in the nation........overall. He wasn't the best player on his HS team. He had that ranking because bama was after him hard and heavy. He didn't pan out for bama.

There is no position with more complete bust in college and pros than QB, there are probably as many starting QBs in NFL that where 3 stars as 5 stars. it’s by far the most difficult position to evaluate

Yeah I see what you’re saying. Wasn’t sure where you were going with it at first

quote:5*’s get drafted pretty high regardless of which team recruited them.
How many recruits are 5 stars because who is recruiting them? I still think the recruiting services main purpose is to bring the websites the maximum money vs accurate information.

I'm not pulling against the guy or anything, but it is pretty obvious that he received a huge artificial rating bump because of his name.
I am not pulling for the guy or anything, but the genes that go along with that name have proven to be worth an extra star rating.

We recruited him and would have taken him but we signed Eli Holstein first and then Lonergran after Arch committed to Texas and I am extremely happy with those 2 instead of Arch. Good luck to him, he's going to be a distraction (not his fault) because of his name.

Well it’s a good thing he’s going to Texas where they develop players, make them better and get 5 stars drafted in the first round.
Oh wait!

I was curious and compared the stats of Arch Manning to Malachi Nelson, Nicholaus Iamaleava, and Eli Holstein.
I thought the QB Rating was most interesting, along with yards per game, because I noted that Arch only played 7 games last year.
Passer Rating:
Arch Manning - 105.8
Malachi Nelson - 121.8
Nicholaus Iamaleava - 124.1
Eli Holstein - 122.9
YPG:
Arch Manning - 195.9
Malachi Nelson - 244.5
Nicholaus Iamaleava - 249.3
Eli Holstein - 217.6
Out of the 4 QBs, he was 3rd in TD/G, 3rd in INT/Att, and 2nd best rushing QB (but a distant second).
He has great mechanics in controlled environments, but it doesn't look like those translate to on the field performance. So either he abandons those mechanics in the face of pressure, or there's another factor.

If true that he is limited he probably won’t start......or it will be another Kansas win in Austin.....
