This thread has been a masters course in low football IQ.
Bama had been recruiting OL guys to run a downhill power run scheme. It was still a work in progress because the C, RG and LT were a disaster early.
They replaced the RG and the LT developed with some experience, but they were huge guys designed to win a knife fight in a phonebooth.
DeBoer runs a different blocking scheme predicated on the OGs and C pulling. They were good enough at it last year that the OL at Washington won the Joe Moore award (you know, the one for the best OL in CFB).
So just like any team switching offenses Bama needs different personnel to run the new system.
This guy, as evidenced by his performance at UW is perfect for the new system and fills a huge position of need for Bama.

He was 2nd team all PAC and a freshman All American on a Joe Moore winning Oline. I think he'll be fine. He's a dawg.
I didn't see any Oline all season long that could hang with Michigan's Dline. They were a nightmare.
