Bama was good one year in basketball and now that’s part of your argument??? Lol
Well this program thing is brand new and Alabama will be a top 15 team next year and probably moving forward for a little while so yeah, I think we should count basketball. It’s extremely relevant as it pertains to this initiative.

Very few players will be marketed on a National level. This will mainly be funded by local alums and will end up being a way for rich boosters to pay athletes. The Alumni and organizations like the REC will organize a way to have athletes paid through local businesses. Not having a cap on the amount will be the end of College Athletics. At what point can a HS Recruit start taking these payments and how will that effect signing day ?
It's been ages IP but I agree with you.

Personally, I see a problem with team morale being affected greatly. What offensive lineman (getting no NIL $$) will give 100% to protect a RB or QB that's pulling in NIL $$ hand over fist? Kicker gets zilch while the star WR pulls in big bucks?

The potential problems are almost limitless. When boosters start funneling money to players, you'll see envy, dissension and morale quickly go down the tubes. There'll be threats by players to coaches about transferring, and then some coaches will solicit money from boosters for that player...and when other unpaid players hear about it, guess what they'll do?....and on and on it'll go.
Only a short sighted fool doesn't see the potential for destruction once this begins.

It’s pathetic that this is where college sports continues to move. This fall, fans will pay hundreds of dollars for seats to watch kids play a sport. We’d like for these kids to buy into team concepts and proudly represent a school. Instead, the universities themselves are helping 18-22 year olds build their brand.

Think about the 85 scholarship limit. Walk-on’s can now be promised as much as scholarship athletes to attend. Players who would normally go to other programs will go to were they are promised enough money plus extra perks to walk on.

The Spring Sports should really take advantage of this rule. Swimmers advertising for local pool companies Baseball player for local batting cages. Golfers for local golf courses or a Top Golf franchise. Gymnast for a local dance or gym facility. The possibilities are endless and you know it will be funded by rich boosters.

That could very well happen, but his market goes beyond Auburn. It will be the local market where this rule will be abused.

This + playoff expansion is going to lead to a glorious post-Saban era for Alabama.

It is going to be a race on who has the richest boosters and if they are willing to spend money. Bama doesn't hold a monopoly on those issues. I see the likes of Texas and ND returning to power on a yearly basis. The SEC already has deep pockets and are willing to use them.

The old system worked better for Bama because Saban could offer the NFL in three years. Now recruits will be concerned with what you can offer now. Plus everyone knew what was going on behind the curtains with certain recruits. Now everyone is on the same level.
