UA once again leading the game. These new laws certainly won't help build any sense of parity. The rich will get richer.

quote:

Alabama Athletics, one of the most recognizable and influential brands in all of sports, has created The Advantage, a comprehensive program that will provide Crimson Tide student-athletes with the education and tools necessary to build and elevate their personal brands.

In working with both campus partners and external entities, The Advantage, will focus on brand management, maximizing personal social media platforms and financial literacy.

“We are excited to launch this new program, which even further demonstrates our commitment to fully developing our student-athletes,” Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne said in a release. “We are blessed to have incredible resources on campus with our institution, allowing us to better fit our specific needs and evolve The Advantage, as needed.”

I’d argue that football alone represents 60% or more of all collegiate athletics prestige/recognition within the United States.

Yes I pulled that stat completely out of my arse.

Softball, yeah up there as well
Gymnastics, See above
Golf, Natty after Natty
Baseball- we suck there.

Surely big time programs have already canvased this and initiated something similar already? Right?

Obviously many State’s Legislators have passed laws already. Surely colleges have a plan in place to be prepared when the time comes.

The Dodge Chargers will be given a Roman Triumph to celebrate their decade of victories on their way to retirement

There are only a handful of brands in collegiate athletics and they're all either football or basketball programs. You think niche sports have brands?

I could take the time to talk shite, but not gonna lie here, good on Bama for doing this. Particularly this part:

and financial literacy.

Because I hate seeing people spend their best years putting their body through hell which they'll feel the rest of their lives, and have nothing to show for it by the end of it.

This actually takes business savvy and critical thinking skills. Kirby can't just take a cell phone picture of a board and call it a day.

Yes, Alabama isn’t out in front just keeping pace.

quote:

Georgia athletic officials are already preparing for a new world for their athletes when it comes to them being able to profit from the change as early as July 1 under an arrangement it’s made with Altius Sports Partners.

The firm, headed by a former vice president of business and legal affairs for the NFL Players Association, is already preparing UGA athletes to understand NIL policies and to monetize their intellectual property. They are doing that through workshops over the next year on personal branding and business formation and opportunities with social media posts, autographs, personal appearances, camps, clinics and such merchandise as T-shirts and bobbleheads.
