High school rankings really don’t mean all that much anymore in the transfer portal era. If they’re saving money for the portal it’s a smart play. One of the things I don’t understand that they’re doing is paying top dollar for a stacked QB room. They’ve got too many QBs. You only need 1 and it should probably be an elite transfer this day in age.

No Chex, Crimson Coverage is just hammering the point home that opposing fans do this every year and every year the class turns out fine.

Most classes are wrapped up by July. That doesn't mean you dont lose or add late guys, but the bulk should be wrapped up by now. They arent going to find a ton of diamomds in the rough or will they clean up in the portal. Both strategies are a recipe for disaster.

Again, the world has changed. Alabama is going after high school superstars who they think could push to start, then they will look to the portal to add the rest of the starters.

As for depth, I expect more will come from guys who made an impression at Troy or somewhere like that, than from guys who went straight to Bama out of high school. It's like a year in the minors, vs sitting on the bench.

They probably don’t want or have the money to spend. If they don’t want to, I don’t blame them.

He was leading the heisman race and was top 5 in practically every statistic there was. After the LSU loss, the Auburn loss was just heads down, feeling the season was over. We had no offense at all without him. It would have been a different game no doubt

You know the definition of insanity, right?

Yet we see these same fans making the same comment every year.

So... yeah.

Where did last year's recruiting class land?

What were the totals at this point last year?

Facts don't matter to trolls dude, only repeating the same nonsense while patting themselves on the back for being "smart" because they have a mentally handicapped person's concept of intelligence.

I will agree with you that there seems to be some version of this thread every year. Who even really cares about recruiting anymore, really?

Bama thinks they can evaluate and develop QBs at a better NIL price point than they could pay for them in the portal. Frankly its a competitive advantage that only a few coaches in the country at an elite level can bank on.

DeBoer isnt afraid to grab a portal QB like he did with Penix, but I dont think Bama wants to spend top open market money like LSU just had to do where you can end up in a bidding war.

Theyd rather evaluate HS kids, see them on campus for a year or two then shed the kids that don't win via the portal and resign the guys you know can run your system and are bought in.

He took Simpson from a guy who couldnt beat out Milroe (who he was stuck with for various reasons) to a mid 1st guy,

Now he has two guys he really likes in Keelon Russell and Austin Mack for the short term and is loading the room behind them for longer term success.

The reality is current era Bama cant win without near elite or elite level QB play so its one position we cant get wrong which is why you see the emphasis on it.
