Their conference opponents combined SEC conference record is 19-44

Beating such juggernauts as ole miss, MSU twice (with both being their closest games in conference) lsu, a down Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and Vandy.

MSU exposed the fraud last night and they needed the refs to intervene to save them. They won’t make it to sweet 16.

Everyone is used to being dominated by Bama in football so there isn't usually much furor over it when it happens. But let Bama even hint at becoming dominant in basketball, and the tears begin to flow like mighty rivers to the sea.

Are you suggesting good teams don’t have “off” games?

Because I can tell you about some Kentucky Final Four and NC/NC runner up teams that did in the duration of a season.

I think Alabama is legit. This season though feels like it has a lot more parity across the board so I think they’re just as vulnerable as anyone in having a game where they get knocked off. But that’s goes for anyone in the Top 25, not just them.

Yeah, they certainly didn't play anyone good or beat anyone good during OOC

Just an FYI: Bama currently has the 8th hardest SoS to date in CBB according to ESPN.

Bama has the #1 strength of record which is a measure of how they performed against the teams they played.

I think Bama is legit good but they got a definite assist from the SEC refs last night who are counseled to protect the highly ranked conference teams. That is usually KY but Bama and Tennessee have taken over that role this year in basketball.

When Bama played at State, the officials let them play. Last night in the first half, same thing. But starting in the second half, they started calling little Nick picky fouls on State. And that strategy worked. It allowed Bama to get back in the game and eventually eke out a win.

This is nothing new. I have always said as a team , you have play through biased officiating and find a way to win game.
The SEC always protects its highest ranked teams in football and basketball.

All that to say Bama does have a good team. They are not a paper tiger. State’s conference record is terrible (1-7) but we are a better team than that record indicates.

Can't agree with you on this one, my friend. Bama is legit this season. You need to consider its OOC schedule (which was very tough).

BAMA played harder in the second half, as simple as that. When you go hard to the basket, and crash the boards, you get the ref's whistle more often, as simple as that as well.

All to say this, Miss State has a very good defense that likes to belly up to the competition, literally. Can't complain when the refs call you out. Now, your offense, it gets hard to finish with that approach and talent.

Some of the metrics have the SOS as the toughest in the country. No one has it below the top 10 toughest.

The way State played last night, they could theoretically play with anyone if they just had a competent backcourt, IMO.

Really impressed with how lock-down physical they were.

On the flip side, I don't think it's really feasible to get that type of effort every night. I think they were spent towards the end, and about six players had three or more fouls each.

But a great game from them regardless.

I think Bama has a really good team this year. I disagreed with Delta that you guys are a paper Tiger.

I was not whining about the officiating. It is just a fact of life in the SEC. They protect the higher ranked teams. So for a team like State, it is up to us to overcome that. Close but no cigar last night.

As I mentioned KY is usually the protected team in basketball. I know of three games (probably more ) over the last 40 years that the official’s basically stole from State to gift horse a win for Kentucky.

It happens. That is why I generally don’t comment about officials and generally defend them.

My point was a disagreement with my fellow State poster along with an explanation on why this happens.

Good luck to Bama going forward. You now have had your two most physically challenging games behind you.
