re: ACC Teams that actually make the most sense, culturally, for the SEC

Nobody is saying this.
What people are saying is that we would like to keep some familiarity with what and who we are. Those cities you mentioned are some of the largest cities in America and definitely do not represent the rural south which occupies more of said states than those cities and being rural, much to your dismay, does not make them bad people.
I don't want "keg stands" everywhere but I do like to go into a restaurant every now and then that has fried green tomatoes and collards and I do like a good ice cold keg every now and then and listen to some country music. I don't like to associate strictly with people that, much like what you sound, think because they live in a big city means your shite doesn't stink.
Have some teams that we are like in some ways in the conference. Miami and Palm can drop in the ocean BTW.

I will never understand what people see in NC State. What exactly do they bring to the table?
Posted on 7/7/22 at 7:43 pm to Jack Ruby
I like this. Let the Big 10 have the flagships and let the SEC have whats left.

NC State is the closest cultural fit in NC. Their fanbase is more like an SEC fanbase than any other NC school. It's also the largest school in NC and Raleigh would be a great road trip. They caught hell from UNC and Duke for continuing to play us almost every year while we were an Independent.

Shut the frick up Ohio. The fact you're on an SEC board says everything.

This.
I have never understood the infatuation with NC State. UNC is the big brand in the Tarheel state and the school with the most potential.

Have you seen the attendance for NC State home games?

per US Census Bureau:
South: 127,225,329 people
West: 78,667,134
Midwest: 68,841,444
Northeast: 57,159,838
the South is also home to 5 of the top 15 states in GDP output (TX, FL, GA, NC, VA)
wealthiest region may be up for debate, but no other region is close population wise.

I am so tired of posting this, but I’ll continue if the redneck portion of the SEC fan base (like OP) insists on promoting that same bilge reflected in his post.
I think there are a couple of things to consider.
1) Virginia in particular and UNC to a lesser extent have been academic Blue Bloods far longer than anyone else in the SEC save Vandy. And they have tried hard to be elite.
Places like UGA and Florida in particular have shot up the academic ladder immensely in the last 15-20 years but they don't make that big deal about it.
So as far as academic snobbery goes...UVA and UNC are different than the SEC.
Secondly, UNC and UVA don't put as much emphasis on football as do any SEC program save Vandy and Kentucky and I'd say Kentucky works at football harder than either UNC or UVA although UNC has tried since they hired Mack Daddy.

And the is growing rapidly in both population and wealth. Major industries are moving to the south and before long there will be no doubt in the south's economic supremacy to the rest of the nation.

One of the better ones on here in a while.

Bad take.
UNC is a huge brand and UVA is a prestigious school in a new TV market. They are definitely the play and then supplement with two more ACC schools if we want to keep going.
Cultural fit doesn’t matter as much as money and tv markets.

For basketball. They are not a football brand. Their fans don't care. The last time we went to Chapel Hill we had at least 15k fans in their 60k seat stadium, which has since been reduced to 50k. When we've played them in Charlotte we outnumber them 2 to 1.

Also, people shouldn't downplay the UNC and UVA cultural fits just because some of their fans are fancy
We're a conference where a small school in the shittiest state in America that anyone with a pulse can get into has convinced itself it's a literary sanctuary for the upper crust of Southern aristocracy
We'll be fine

well tbh there isn't a school in NC with a true football dominant brand except for maybe App or ECU. it's a college basketball state similar to KY where the big guys run basketball and play football on the side unlike everywhere else in the SEC sans Vandy

They average 57k per game, which is basically the capacity for Carter-Finley Stadium.

The numbers don't add up. The Midwest has large populated cities like Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, etc. The Northeast has New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston. The South has low populated, rural states such as Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma (I count them now),Kentucky, South Carolina, etc. I realize that Texas and Florida are big but I have a hard time believing that the South has more people than the Northeast and I'd be curious as to which states the US Census Bureau consider to be southern.

I don't think the decision makers care about culture anymore.

Neither school is being considered for their football pedigree but UNC has a better all time record of 668-531 to State's 597-570 and UNC leads the all time series 66-36. SO if NC State is putting more emphasis on football than UNC, it ain't showing.
UNC and UVa would make a great addition to our current AAU schools and will bring us more value.

It's the way they break apart the regions.
The "South" includes all of Texas and North up to Maryland. Fifteen states.
The northeast includes just 9.
