Luis Jr, will need a heck of a legal defense, and a federal judge that has a very broad interpretation of certain things .

Not including Luis Jr. I would say 4/5, will be able to play.
They may have, I know it was announced all over social media. As well as by reputable Euro basketball media. My gut tells me he will come down to the end and sad because he is my favorite player from this committed class thus far. There are CBA things to consider. As well as honestly think he could come down to a day before school and choose to stay in Europe and play pro ball with which he is familiar and this was his first full year in the Euroleague, by the end he was getting more PT and really seemed to enjoy that type of atmosphere.
Firmly staying in the 2027 class, which is the best decision. Kentucky is second to LSU in the race. I think LSU takes this one by the fall. UK thinks he will be theirs in the end. With Popes future in question now, Hampton’s relationship with not only Stoudemire but Wade think he is solidly us.
Awesome prompt and tough question.

Favorite player was Trendon Watford a lot of reasons but to me was a very finished product. Played within himself, now showing what he can do in the NBA as an undrafted player at that. Not many undrafted guys get minutes on playoff teams, ever put up triple doubles or score 30+ in games.

Loved Emmitt Williams undersized junkyard dog that brought the noise and toughness.

Underrated guy that doesn’t get enough credit was Duop Reath, JUCO guy that was recruited by Johnny Jones but with Tremont Waters turned that first team into a NIT team and good solid first year that has become a really good pro and still I think after his cup of coffee with the Blazers will get another NBA chance.
When I first talked, they had a skeleton staff of 5. They struck out on their Top 3 transfer portal targets that were the non McNeese, NC State previous connection guys. Really the day after Haggerty made a firm decision to go elsewhere, they pivoted to this strategy. I think had they gotten those 3, kept 2-3 guys from the previous LSU team then added Dioubate, Bashir, McNeil, Ugo that team is probably a middling SEC team that I would have put 8-11 wins. Probably a little above a bubble team, high floor, lower ceiling type team.

Fantastic recruiting staff Wade put together. I would put this staff among the Top-3 LSU has ever had, rivaling the best staffs Brady had (Tyndall, Kermit Davis, Butch Pierre etc..) or Brown (Abernathy, Tex Winter, Rick Huckabay, Johnny Jones year after). Which could be a great topic, I will post to the rant. Jones handling 27’ guys especially the Texas recruits. Stansbury foreigners, Hamilton and Stoudemire US transfers, high school grassroots connections, some foreign. All of the coaches based on positions will talk to every recruit and help.

To answer the question, they knew it would cause major waves with the number of guys they would go after. Where they are playing as in not getting guys from the second or third levels of the European basketball pyramid. Going after actual Euroleague pros that get above the expense/salary minimums. In the case of Luis (He will be ruled ineligible doubt there will be an injunction granted, still he could play 5-12 games off appeal and suits.) What I still do not understand or get is you have national media types, fans of CBB, even LSU local media and fans saying they aren’t eligible or will be ruled ineligible. They are not eligible because they haven’t even gone through the clearinghouse, applied for visas, or gone through the process.

If this was TLDR:
Staff thoughts they may or probably will be ruled ineligible by the NCAA which is silly and wild for a ton of reasons, in house counsel and defense firms finna eat. But like Dessert, Santos, Ruzik, in previous years they were recruited stateside by major college teams and were all but assured eligibility. But now even with new NCAA bylaws or rules, which many college coaches know and do not want because it could be fatal to their 2026-27 teams. The NCAA stuff will have no teeth. Excuse my language, f what the NCAA implements or wants. You cannot simply ignore 135 years of federal law and precedent. By the way tyfys to John Sherman for all you did for LSU and continue to do. So I think besides Luis if they all come over, which for Niang and Madar are still big ifs, they will be able to play at LSU.

Backup plan is this, go get 3-4 high school recruits that are not ready right now to go up against NCAA tourney teams, 2-3 JUCO guys they brought in one guard and a wing for visits not commitable offer guys good players IMO with 4 to play 3 I believe, maybe 4 to play 4 Idk or 3 for 3 idk, and 1-2 more transfers like Nunez that never reached their potential but have played major CBB. That team will struggle mightily but if LSUs guys aren’t able to play, a lot of SEC and major college basketball teams should and wouldn’t be able to play.
I still cannot believe a group, person, or being would set something up after losing millions of dollars, to lose again. The NCAA is something.

This doesn't sound good Might not have a roster after all

Go NCAA! They are really something man, that’s their answer to this????

They still are so out of touch they won’t even craft or conceive legislation with Sherman in mind. Just an absolute clown show. They just paid in the 2025 fiscal year something like $28 million in legal fees not counting in house salaries and consulting fees. They still are going to write or come up with stuff at odds with antitrust federal law. Beyond me how Baker and that group can continue to say they need to be looked at for guidance or a real voice in any of this.
So when I first heard that CWW was going to not only go after a few active participating Euroleague players but effectively buy them out and take the risk of them never coming I was surprised to say the least.

Then when you start talking about 3, or 4, let alone 5 commitments/signings, it was dang. Everyone knows he doesn’t care about the opinions of others outside the program (Fans/alumni/boosters considered inside program) but that he would openly upend and take advantage of the lack of regulation you knew it would make huge waves. But he is going after 9-12 commitments basically saying to not only the CBB establishment but the sports media in general, this is the bed you are selling I will buy the California king size version and let everyone know. It is glorious. It says not only we are here but that we are here to win.
de Laurrea I would estimate at 25% he commits, 10% he makes it to campus. As we speak still no numbers discussed.
Yes also Ronald Dupree has been a huge help as well!
Really think it could be a MLB style high school draft pick approach at this point. I’m still worried about Madar or Niang coming over and actually making it to campus.
Yessir. Outta nowhere hadn’t heard about it even more fascinating he is taking his name out of the draft.
He just got another commitment and will sign a EURO that is that committed to Wade that he is taking his name out of the NBA draft! :doublebird:

I don’t know if he is trying yet, but if he ever tries really hard man better watch out right?
By the way Wade and LSU just got a commitment from a EURO that was in this years NBA draft class and is taking his name out that nobody had heard of even being in contact with. You still have Graves and now de Laurrea
Glorious keep them coming. At this point I hope and I know he does just go and sign a current NBA player or have them commit. What are people going to get upset. Great add

Could you post a few of the articles that are highly critical of Wade?

Ummmm. this is just one article a summation of a national cbb podcast…..

Will Wade, I wish you didn’t come back to college basketball,”

But, man, you suck for college basketball right now. Seriously. You suck for college basketball. Like, you’re making it into a mockery. And look in the mirror, and understand it’s not just about you. This is about more than just you. This is about the sport of college basketball. Have some pride. Have some dignity. Don’t try to ruin the sport.”

What a joke
Jeff really needs to calm down, first off there is no pride or dignity on the unemployment line. It’s about winning. He needs to keep those thoughts to himself.

The first sign was when you hired ‘Slick Rick’ Stansbury,” Goodman said. “That was the first sign when you got to LSU that you were going to muck it up as much as humanly possible. I know people are trying to push the rules. I get it.

He quickly pivoted to slandering multiple other coaches to show how Qill is the worst among them????

And now it’s the same sh*t all over again. Obviously, the rules have changed. We know that. But, come on, man. Again, have some pride. Have some dignity in your profession! In your profession! Have some dignity. F*ck.”

Somebody needs to tell Jeff, yeah it is Wade’s profession he can make the calls for his life, if he doesn’t mind. Second Wade doesn’t answer to anyone accept the powers at be at LSU. He doesn’t have any kind of professional courtesy that is expected to anyone else to explain himself before he makes a decision as the Head Coach. Given that it’s his profession your media opinion about what is and isn’t prideful in someone’s else’s profession does not only not matter. I think any human would be infuriated if someone outside of their profession told them after 20 years in a business to quit, and be talked to like a toddler what they should have done in the past, and what they need to do in the future.

Written enough Goodman then posts 4 separate coaches that told him basically what a POS Wade is, how he is ruining the sport, my favorite though is when two of them give him a compliment when they say only Wade would do this. That’s a compliment Pitino and Izzo.

He’s not “signing” players who now automatically get to play and that no one else has access to. He’s recruiting players and soliciting commitments from players who he knows may not be eligible.

Not trying to be argumentative at all, I still want to know besides Luis Jr. how could they when they apply for eligibility be ruled ineligible. Can show right now in the SEC 15 examples from last year and the portal this given moment, of the exact same situation. They were ruled eligible and are playing/transferring in. The only big difference was CWW cut out the middle men and didn’t wait. They went directly to pro teams with buyout money, and did nothing wrong. They just got so many at once directly from the second best league in the world. LSU doesn’t need permission or have the inclination to let people know what they are doing? It’s recruiting, I mean so when Mark Pope from Kentucky flew to Tel Aviv sat down with Santos and was told no by him and his agent I don’t want to play for you GTFO, LSU had been in co tact with him before during and after. What LSU should have called Kentucky and told them hey don’t give up he still might want to play. Or call Kansas about Dessert, like Desseet committed and was going to come over and play for Kansas last year, the reason he didn’t wasn’t because of eligibility it was the draft, Andalou coming in and offering a good deal and he didn’t wanna leave Europe at the time in his life plain and simple.
Being a lawyer by trade only, the NCAA looks like a huge insurance company right now that is just denying every claim they get, and then when they get sued left and right, they are just signing up every defense firm they can find and paying them full well knowing they are going to lose. By now there has to be between football, men’s and women’s basketball, there have even been golf cases, track and field cases, maybe hundred or thousands of individual “cases” where they may only be winning on the merit 2-3% of the time. With new legislation, they would still be at odds with federal antitrust laws. Even after a 25 year age limit is imposed, you still have religious, military, medical, and state laws where it can be easily argued and won they can’t do it.

I personally agree I don’t want unlimited player movement, no restrictions on the type of transfers, and I would like some kind of age/prior experience bylaw. Because i’m not worried it will ruin or fundamentally change college athletics. I’m worried in 10-15 years some of these gets gobbled up by pro sports or overnight a university has to cease athletics and are left with a ridiculous I don’t know $200-$300 million shortfall overnight. Have asked on social media, multiple pages of message boards, coaches, players. So if what LSU is doing is “wrong” is what everyone else doing wrong as well. I’m not talking about the hypocrisy of it, i’m talking about the reality that’s in front of everyone. I feel like when they started this about a month ago, knew then it would cause a huge stir and upend things, didn’t think the vast majority of people would be detached from reality about it.

I think on the whole ALL college sports fans would just like a world where there was clarity on the rules and there weren't constant runs to the courthouse to bend them in your favor for your specific need at the time.

Totally agree.

So some of what you were hearing from Matt was just one side of the behind the scenes battle...the side that was not all in on Wade returning. They didn't want to allow themselves to be bullied by the Governor, for various reasons.

I got that and understood it. What i’m saying is okay he was sorta against the Wade rehire or spoke in his connections and their internal feelings. But even if Vesge didn’t want to. Up until the minute Wade returned, there was never any pushback or it felt like any real plan, for lack of a better word had they won the power struggle. So Wade doesn’t come to LSU. There was no sense and actually it was put forth the opposite on three occasions by guests on Moscona’s show of so you don’t get Wade, your going to keep McMahon? Will only had one week between getting hired and the portal opening. So Vegre himself speaking about the job or others you were gooing to keep McMahon, or let him go but you didn’t have a search ready, or have any names they put forward themselves. It would have been a very tough sell to get a good list of coaches that would have wanted that job, if they didn’t want Wade they didn’t have anything else though, so in effect they are just hurting the program and university for what power?
quote:

Won't they be affected by the age limit when the 5 for 5 thing passes?

If and when it passes as it’s currently conceived. None of them had started their clocks, besides I don’t know how you could legally set an arbitrary age ceiling for the 5 and 5. As in for decades the NCAA has allowed cross sport pros to come back mostly baseball to football guys at any age to start their clocks in another amateur sport. The 5 in 5 won’t affect any of these guys either they aren’t 2-3 year guys even they are 3 month mercenaries. In the portal top 100 you have what 30 internationals right now but they are all 2-3-4 year college guys even the ones that played professionally overseas. So I think it will almost be like grad transfers for these guys in a sense is how the NCAA should craft a rule if they want to limit it or do something.
