Not really. It's controversial because people lost their minds at someone respectfully kneeling in protest. Some folks lose their shite pretty easily and don't understand that even Kapearnick as odd as he is was never disrespecting the flag. He was trying to highlight something he felt needed to be fixed in our great country.

Agree or disagree with his particular issue that's pretty damn American. We all want our country better.

I mean, who cares? Why do people have such weird animosity about another's perceived political views? It's not like Saban is an outspoken person in this regard. As others have noted, this is an extremely prepared and measured answer to a tough question given the diverse makeup of Bama's large fanbase. Being prepared, classic Saban.

What a weird place to lash out at a good American for giving a fair answer to a question others on both sides haven't answered nearly as well imo.

He certainly answered "I'd like your take in the NFL players who won't stand for our national anthem."

I thought he heavily implied that the answer to "Would you welcome former players who won't stand back on your sideline?" is "yes."

The problem I have is that these athletes chose to politicize the National Anthem. If you want to make political statements do it at a press conference or interview. Hell speak your mind, but during the Natioinal Anthem show respect for those that sacrificed so you have a voice. If they really want to make a difference go to the Southside of Chicago. How many have protested the situation there?

I wish there were a bama player who quit the nfl, faced bogus felony charges from shitdick cops, and then became army airborne... and no nfl fans gave a frick, and literally their jersey can't be bought online today. Oh wait, hold the coffee...

You knew this post wasn't going to be well received. This is the south afterall. Where the majority of people willingly vote against their best interests because "Pepperidge Farm remembers".

People originally lost their minds because some washed up QB was sitting his arse down. Now, I don't think it's the end of the world or anything, but I don't believe that was respectful at the time.

BTW, it's Kaepernick...

OK enough response. Les would have responded more philosoph-thespian-like. I think.

See this is the problem. People do not understand that its not about disrespect. It's about respect and honoring the sacrifice of all who served and died for this country. The national anthem is not your tool to use to forward your own agenda. That is what is inherently wrong with this pathetic display. IDGF what you are protesting there are better ways to do it. The flag and anthem should be respected and if you can't simple do that, then you need to GTF out of this country.

What's the matter with this generation excluding those that served and fought for this country, is freedom has been given to them and they don't understand what it took to have that freedom.

BTW I am a veteran and I know many military service members and veterans that are completely disgusted by this. How TF do you think they feel fighting this countries wars in the OIF and OEF campaigns and this is the treatment and the respect that they get.

So the question should have included the players who raise the "black power" fist. Interesting how those racist POSs tend to be given a pass in all of this.

I think freedom includes peaceful protest. Would be a non issue if the sports media world didn't create a bigger controversy than it really is to troll snowflakes and get viewers.

Well I'm a vet & I support the players right to protest & I don't have a problem with it.

You act as if OIF & OEF were against Nazi Germany & imperialist Japan.
