I award him points for diplomacy but there was no reinventing of the wheel in the actual comment. It was basically 'girls, girls, you're both pretty'. Of course, with a subject that's been beat to death it's hard to be revolutionary.

And as someone else mentioned he was definitely prepared for that question- which, I reckon, isn't a bad thing and just another example of Saban being prepared.

It was at least the second time he's been asked that question this week.

Saban: "It's probably not how I would protest. But, I respect that they want to draw attention to what they feel is an injustice, and it's their freedom to do so."

75% of Trump Voters: "Dumb libral pussy! Freedom means paw paw fought the germans so you have to stand up!"

given the diverse makeup of Bama's large fanbase. Being prepared, classic Saban.

Diverse makeup?I would assume a big majority of the Bama fanbase are rupublicans/Trump supporters and most his players aren't and he gave an answer that didn't
alienate either.

It wasn't much of a answer but probably the smartest thing to say.

Why does the hard-right feel they have some kind of exclusivity rights on what is and isn't patriotic?

Because fox News and conservative talk radio told them so.

Great whole post and what I quoted is where I sit these days. It's truly funny to me that I'm considered conservative.

Holy shite. The two situations aren't even close to equivalent.

Why don't you enlist go through two wars and then tell us what that anthem stands for and what that flag stands for. The two situations are definitely equivalent and that is what some of you people don't understand.

See this is the inherent problem you people do not understand because I do not believe you understand exactly what that anthem stands for and what that flag stands for.

It is easy to say ya it stands for the military and veterans who fought for this country. IT STANDS FOR THE FREEDOM THAT YOU ENJOY AND THE COUNTLESS DEATHS THAT, THAT FREEDOM COST. If you can't respect that, then God help you.

This response right here shows that you have no respect. There is no greater sacrifice then dying for your country. There is no greater gift that a parent gives then to have their son or daughter serve. Yet you believe that political change is more important than the men and women of this country who serve and sacrifice for it.

Not even close. If you go to a funeral, everyone is there to support he family or remember the one that died. If you are protesting at a funeral, you are protesting the reason everyone is there for.

No one goes to a football game for the national anthem. It's just something they tend to do before the game.

The flag/anthem also represents the country, not the military. I really don't understand how this is so difficult.

People criticize Saban for not taking a side, but we have too many people today who are too quick to jump in and draw lines in the sand on every issue or topic that comes up.

I liked Saban's response.
