Kentucky is going to want Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Egregious OP.

Some teams have more than 1 qualifying rivalry to be made permanent. Tennessee has both Bama and Vandy. Bama has Tenn and Auburn. Auburn has Georgia and Alabama. Georgia has Auburn and Florida. Is this a reach? No.
I like the OP's take with some hesitation. Personal take, is that some programs need certain games to open or retain recruiting areas. USCe needs UGa for this purpose as an example.
Kentucky & SC could be exchanged from right to left.
Kentucky wouldn't be happy about it though.
Perms would change as follows:
GA - FL, Aub, SC
FL - GA, TN, KY
SC - KY, GA, V
KY - SC, FL, MIZ
At the end of the day, someone has to play Missouri besides Oklahoma. Figuring out those 3 would go a long way to figuring out the whole puzzle.
As an example, if it's Texas, then Arkansas can't play Texas since Texas will already be full, but I think Arkansas wants the Texas game.
A&M could make sense I suppose. Kentucky is at least close geographically, as is Tennessee & Vanderbilt.
So who should Missouri's 3 Perm's be?

I honestly don't mind Mizzou, but it makes absolutely no sense for one of South Carolina's permanent opponents to be 14 hours away.

This is where we are.. anyone have a problem with any of these so far?
Which of these games should be played every year?
1. LSU vs Texas A&M
2. Kentucky vs South Carolina
3. LSU vs Ole Miss
4. LSU vs Florida
5. Florida vs Tennessee
6. Arkansas vs Ole Miss
7. Georgia vs South Carolina
8. Kentucky vs Vanderbilt
Insert any other games that you think should be played every year.

I am more of a fan of one permanent rival every year. It would keep the iron bowl going and Tennessee and Bama also

Oklahoma could play Ok State for the Thanksgiving game and LSU could play a non-conference opponent. "Stop trying to make OU happen Gretchen!"

Good Lord. Did you work on that all class?

Interesting but pointless exercise, IMO. SEC is staying at 8 conference games because ESPN/ABC/Disney do not have the $$$ to pay us for that 9th conference game.

Valid point, but in this case, I think the SEC should go to a 3/5 scheduling format, where the 3 permanent rivals would be the same as the 3/6.
But yes, this is all a pointless exercise. I do agree with that, but I like working on the puzzle.

I even stayed after class. #Dedication2PointlessCauses

Why force the AR/MO issue at all?
It should be the two rivals and southern state schools Arkansas vs LSU and the two midwestern state and former Big12 rivals Missouri and Oklahoma.
Exactly. Arky basically got Mizzou forced on them for Thanksgiving and we got A&M forced on us so the SEC could thrown A&M a bone for losing the Thanksgiving Texas game.
They need to give that Black Friday game back to us

I don’t know why there’s this fascination with OU playing LSU. They’re playing two of the top teams in the conference in Mizzou (confirmed) and Texas (unconfirmed), they could actually use a weaker opponent.
Oh that makes sense.

They should be NO permanent games. Everyone rotate through everyone else.
That sounds awful. At that point I'd be on board with the "college football is going to hell and I'm not watching anymore" crew on here.

This actually works on a lot of different levels..

A&M won't be happy with this arrangement, but pretty much every other team gets who they want. Who doesn't like these 3 perms?

This is pretty well thought out, but I honestly see no reason the SEC should go to 9 conference games. Most of the conference already schedules at least one attractive P5 OOC game (looking at you, Aggies), and you still have the 3 smaller home games.
Until TV agrees to pay for it, there's no reason to give 8 conference teams an additional loss.

The one thing about this scheduling process that absolutely needs to happen is that every team in the conference plays every other team at least every other year.
That works. Keeps the schedule fresh.

Understood. The 3/5 schedule would work the exact same way as the 3/6 schedule with one minor tweak.
You would play perms every year (same as 3/6)
6 teams every other year (same as 3/6)
6 teams 2x every 6 years (little different)

So something like this..
same schedule, you just drop 1 team from your schedule each year, 6 different teams over a 6 year period. Those 6 teams would be different for everyone. They are gray above just selecting teams at random that might make sense.
