Annual Thanksgiving Matchups with this Schedule
Alabama vs Auburn
Tennessee vs Vanderbilt
LSU vs Oklahoma
Texas vs Texas A&M
Arkansas vs Missouri
Ole Miss vs Miss State

Georgia vs Georgia Tech
Florida vs FSU
South Carolina vs Clemson
Kentucky vs Louisville

I realize LSU vs Oklahoma isn't a traditional rivalry, but both need a Thanksgiving matchup and I would like to see them try it out for 4 years. If it isn't working, then we come up with a new plan.

I think everyone else will be pretty happy with all 3 of their permanent opponents. Missouri vs South Carolina is the only other "weird one" but they have played every year for the last 12 years. The other option would be Missouri vs Miss State, and that doesn't make much sense to me.

TLDR: Yes, yes I know. If you don't like the permanent's for some reason, what would you change? I like this format because it offers balanced scheduling..

They should be NO permanent games. Everyone rotate through everyone else.

Wouldn't it be simpler to home in home 2 years in a row?

I think the purpose of this thread is to guess further schedules and discuss the scheduling. If so, props.

This makes sense. Scrap the Iron Bowl every year.

Yes.

Does LSU vs Florida & Tennessee vs Oklahoma make more sense? That change can be done, but the Thanksgiving matchups wouldn't work that way.

I honestly don't give a shite either way, but it's the offseason so it's like a puzzle to me, and I want to solve it. Unfortunately, someone will always be unhappy with just 3 perms.

There is no way to make any permanent rivalry fair. It needs to be a fair rotation. Its the only equal way to do it. New rivalries can be made. Besides, auburn needs to play Bama much more than Bama needs auburn.

Both are valid options.

Year 1/3 & 2/4
or
Year 1/2 & 3/4

With one you play every team within a 2 year period.
With the other, you play every team in a 3 year period.
With both, you play every team 2x in 4 years.

Idk which one is better.

Everyone has been complaining about _____ having an easy schedule this year.. or ______ has a brutal schedule.. so this was an attempt to make scheduling more balanced using the Matrix system.

Half the teams on one side..
the other half on the other side..

1 Perm on the same side
2 Perm's on the other side

The teams on the same side play essentially the same schedule each year, with some small differences.

7/9 games the same the first year
8/9 games the same the next year

I am more of a fan of one permanent rival every year. It would keep the iron bowl going and Tennessee and Bama also. Every other game is rotational

How does Alabama play both Auburn & Tennessee each year with only 1 permanent rival? Wouldn't that be 2 at a minimum? I'm good with any and all formats.

Here is another variation using the same methodology.

Because people who want permanent rivalries will go to any length to try and justify it.

Don't know why folks want to place Oklahoma with LSU as the post mentioned they are not traditional rivals. That part is true. However, Arkansas is a traditional rival of LSU and we've had some great games during the Thanksgiving weekend. Mizzou and Arkansas are the ones that are not traditional rivals but Missouri and Oklahoma are!

Why force the AR/MO issue at all?

It should be the two rivals and southern state schools Arkansas vs LSU and the two midwestern state and former Big12 rivals Missouri and Oklahoma.

What is so dang hard about this??

If you try to create the 3 team grid for everyone, you will see it gets complicated quick.

I'll try to show you using Arkansas as an example.
Who would you choose to be your 3 perm's?

Using this answer, I'll attempt to show you how the rest of the puzzle is effected.

Games listed are the games that everyone seems to agree on. So what are your picks for Arkansas?

I think the idea of playing the entire league in a 2 year period is preferable. Suppose you have a great player who only spends two years in the league. With this option, everyone gets to see that player.

Frick the Iron Bowl. Bama shouldn't have to let little sister ride its coat-tails every year.

Some teams have more than 1 qualifying rivalry to be made permanent. Tennessee has both Bama and Vandy. Bama has Tenn and Auburn. Auburn has Georgia and Alabama. Georgia has Auburn and Florida. Is this a reach? No.

I like the OP's take with some hesitation. Personal take, is that some programs need certain games to open or retain recruiting areas. USCe needs UGa for this purpose as an example.
