This game will be cool as hell if it snows in South Bend.

I feel like college football in general is getting better OOC games than in the past. Definitely a good thing.

Odds of fans calling the SEC overrated if Tennessee and Arkansas lose these games (that they will most assuredly be fairly large underdogs to)?

Looks like College GameDay could be West Coast for the first two weeks of the season:

Week 1: Michigan at Washington
Week 2: Ohio State at Oregon

Week 1 could be in Dallas for USC vs. Alabama, however I find the Michigan vs. Washington matchup to be more intriging compared to a sure-to-be bloodbath of USC in Arlington Part 2.

Plus Georgia goes to Tuscaloosa Week 3, and Gameday is likely to be in Tuscaloosa for that one.

This would have been a good game 15 years ago. This is worse than them playing Duke this year.

Alabama played them in 2016 the year they won the rose bowl and finished in the top 5 and won by 40 points.

Didn't they finish with the exact same record as Texas?

Both teams were more or less identical last year.

Losses mostly to ranked teams.
An upset over a ranked team during the regular season.
A weird loss to a team they should have beaten.

usually this is reserved for teams that are AP ranked.

I don't know. I kinda feel the opposite is happening.

Of that entire list of 29 games, only 7 are projected right now to feature two ranked teams.

Based on the Consensus of 19 "Way-Too-Early" Top 25 rankings that came out last week, here would be those games:

#3 Alabama vs. #19 USC
#16 Texas @ #4 LSU
#2 Ohio State @ #9 Oregon
#11 Auburn vs. #25 North Carolina
#10 Notre Dame vs. #12 Wisconsin
#1 Clemson at #10 Notre Dame
#10 Notre Dame at #19 USC

Just for comparison.... I chose a random year way back in the past to dig up major OOC games. I chose 1990. Here are some of the games played that season with the rankings at the time of the game:

#1 Notre Dame @ #4 Michigan
#2 Miami @ #6 Notre Dame
#1 Notre Dame @ #9 Tennessee
#2 Florida State @ #9 Miami
#7 Florida State @ #5 Auburn
#8 Tennessee vs. #8 Colorado
#8 Florida State @ #6 Florida
#1 Miami @ #16 BYU
#1 Notre Dame @ #18 Penn State
#1 Notre Dame @ #24 Michigan State
#7 Notre Dame @ #18 USC
#13 Pitt @ #14 Oklahoma
#9 Colorado @ #21 Illinois
#12 Washington@ #20 Colorado
#18 USC @ #15 Ohio State
#23 Oklahoma @ #19 UCLA
#20 Colorado @ #22 Texas

I found 17 and I probably missed some others. And the great thing about those games above is that only one was played at a neutral site (Tennessee vs. Colorado in the old "Kickoff Classic").... all others were on campus.

**And there were several other great matchups that didn't qualify because one team wasn't ranked at the time.... LSU played Florida State that year. Georgia played Clemson.... USC played Penn State... etc.

I felt like College Football was way more fun back then. Conferences were smaller. There were more great OOC games scheduled... you rarely saw these neutral site games played... and it seemed like every region of the country produced great teams instead of all the power concentrated just in the South.

VOLS will almost certainly be ranked when they storm into Norman imo

What makes you think that?

In a consensus of 19 "Way-Too-Early" Top 25 polls released last week, Tennessee was #30. I mean its certainly possible but not guaranteed. And beating Charlotte Week 1 is not likely to turn any heads.

Miami, FSU, Notre Dame, and Penn State were all independent in 1990. That explains a lot of your list.

A consensus using elite way too early top 25 polls, Tennessee was ranked #22.

I do not waste my time nor clicks on mediocre to bottom tier publications
